    Hello,
After completely rewriting my Sitepro programming my fairways and roughs are twice as dense as they have ever been. I have begun to not irrigate in the areas where we are to cut roughs the following day to avoid clumping. We normally irrigate 7 days per week with low salinity gypsum dominated water.

Do any of you out there modify irrigation in this way? I know many with salty water or with limited supply may irrigate heavily and then wait a couple of days. I would assume in this case that you cut as often as possible when areas are drier. We have San Diego inland 20 miles type climate with no rain from May to October. It has been 100F for a few weeks but fairways and roughs are in very good form.

My two most senior staff say they have never heard of irrigating around mowing.

    Thanks

We don't necessarily schedule our mowing and irrigation cycles in such a way, but we do do a few things to alleviate the clumping and so on. 1st off, we are in a high desert scenario in western North Dakota that gets little to no rain during the summer months. Averaging around 90 for the last month with absolutely no rain. Highly sodic environment. We irrigate heavy every other night. We've gone to simply doing all of our maintenance in the evenings to alleviate introducing fresh wounds to the plants and wicking all that nasty water through during the heat of the day. The only way we'll mow during the morning is if there is absolutely no dew. That goes for fairways and roughs anyway. We try to mow the areas that will be irrigated that evening as much as possible to help the plant heal in the cooler evenings.

Its been working pretty well, a lot less streaking from cart traffic during the heat of the day. Also gives a much cleaner appearance to the golf course each day.
