Toro 3500 front roller options

    Toro 3500 with rotary decks

    It seems that I am replacing bearings in the 2 front rollers on the decks every 2 seasons.
    The bearing setup seems poor as they are sealed bearings with not much of a lifespan(and not cheap) with no ability to grease and possibly prolong their life.

    Is there other options that people have had success/solid performance from?

    Maybe I'm missing something here bearings for that roller should only be about $20 a piece. Replacing bearings every 2 years is my normal time anyway, I'm glad when I only have to do it then. I did see where the parts manual has the roller and the bearing part numbers wrong though, the bearing is part number 120-3366

    We switched to GolfCo rollers on our sidewinder. Sealed bearings and no problems through 2 seasons.

    I have seen issues with UHMW front rollers from R&R. The plastic roller wears over time effecting the height of cut. The factory front roller bearings on my 4500 and 3500 take the same stainless steel shielded bearings part number 108-9017 or 120-3366 which are $18.90 a piece through R&R. I have decent luck with them (2 years 400-500 hours aprox). What I find is that the shafts on the wheels seem to wear down if the bolts loosen up ever so slightly. There are no numbers on my bearings so it is hard to cross to a different type of bearing. If you have a bearing distributer near you take your bearings to them to match up with a different style. In the past I have also used a pick to remove the metal or rubber shields (carefully) on bearings and then packed with grease then put the shield or seal back in which will extend the life of the bearing. I have not tried this method on these bearings yet however as they last long enough for me.

    I wish we got two seasons out of bearings. We're lucky to get 6 months here in Florida. That's about a 1,000-1,200 hour season.

    While replacing a spare front deck wheel on a 3500D, I removed the metal shield from the new bearing that I purchased from R&R then repacked with Swepco 103 Moly grease. The original bearing had white grease and seemed to be a very light coating. I removed the metal shield carefully with a pick and a small flathead screwdriver, repacked the bearing, then reinstalled the shield. Care is needed when removing and installing the shield as there is a seal under it. My thought is the swepco grease will hold up to water better than the original grease. Time will tell.

    Found some bearings at a local bearing distributer that are a direct fit for my 3500D and 4500D front wheel decks
    NBR 204RY2
    They look similar to the R&R ones but the shields are a gold color.
