I nearly posted this yesterday but ran out of time and needed to go to the dermatologist. I have been having some funny feelings about some of the geological events around the world. I did tell someone yesterday prior to the quake but I was going to post, watch Chile because they are about to have a major earthquake event in the very near future. I was also watching earthquake activity in Alaska and anticipate we will see Redoubt Volcano erupt very soon. My other non professional guesses or forecast, have to do with Hawaii where the increased earthquake activity will probably lead to increased volcanic activity at the currently erupting volcano or perhaps Mauna Loa. I also think far more is going on with Yellowstone than we are being told. It won't be a major calamity type of eruption but I am guessing we will see some pressure relieving event in the near future as in couple of years. Of course Iceland is a given, I don't even need to guess on that eruption taking place. Los Angeles or the near surroundings including the Coachella Valley have had a number of small quakes leading up to the La Habra quake. Something other than normal activity is going on here as well. I hope my track record is zero but every now and then, I get feelings about things about to happen. Don't know if it is because I am interested in geology and plate tectonics or I have some wierd thing going on here. Don't think I would move to coastal Oregon for the next several years either. Hope I am dead wrong on all of these. Far smarter people with legitimate credentials study these things and I would pay more attention to them than me having a hunch. I just thought I would throw this out there for fun.

    Sandy,

    Any freaky feelings about Wisconsin?

Global warming will get so bad that all the cheese will melt, flooding most low lying towns.

When the Kaiju start emerging from deep beneath the sea near areas of tectonic plate movement then I'll worry. A 5.1 in La Habra isn't enough to even make this native put down the paper. The dogs didn't even wake up (so much for the theory that they can somehow sense one coming).

Perhaps someone in the midwest can explain to us all why tornadoes only seem to strike trailer parks.

I can only imagine the mess between Indio and Los Angeles when that branch of the San Andreas decides to finally go! Even with all the drill, we are no way prepared! The only feeling I have on Wisconsin is that Winter will actually end this year! How is that for going out on a limb! Geology, especially earthquakes, plate tectonics and volcanoes are really interesting topics. After I made my comment this morning, I read the Bison are running away from Yellowstone and the count on Elk is really low this year. No scientific proof but animals do tend to know when trouble is brewing. Cascadia subduction zone off Oregon and Washington is within the average span of years for an Indonesia type of earthquake and Alaska has been pretty quiet since I nearly slept on the beach during Spring break of 1964 on a surfing trip! Wouldn't have been washed away but would probably have been wet. Iceland may get disruptive to the world again pretty soon. Something is starting to cook there and could erupt at any time! All kinds of exciting geological events to consider and none have anything to do with climate change! Some would make climate change a forgotten fairy tale if they happen, like Yellowstone!

    Hi Sandy,

When I was in Costa Rica a few years ago to do a lecture and consulting for the Ministerio de Medio Ambiente they showed me a website where you can see all the volcanic activity. We were touring near active volcanos visiting 125,000 acres of pinapples and then into coffee plantations. I am sure you visit similar websites. Geology is fascinating to me as well.

The Iceland eruptions cost us plenty in golf revenues and tourism in general a few years back with thousands of cancelled flights.

You beat me to it, Petey. Thought the same thing, They don't look to be panicking and are obeying traffic laws. There could be a herd of in heat Bisonettes up the road a ways and the boys are heading out for a rendezvous.
I had never heard of an ice quake before this winter but once the term was know, everyone was hearing them. We get too much information these days and can extrapolate and manipulate that knowledge to fit our own fears. You guys sitting on fault lines obviously have more of a "What If" thing about quakes.

Larry, until a large one hits, most of us in CA just shrug our shoulders and say I just felt an earthquake and then go back to our business! I think we are all far happier that we don't face hurricanes, tornado's, ice storms etc. Now flooding and fires, that is another story. When El Nino's hit, everything that can flood does and the rest of the years we worry about fires from June through November! Those are far more deadly!

Think of the benefits of the Big One. Your facility will probably be Beach Font property. I will be able to use my Mineral Rights for off shore drilling.

Scott, I don't doubt this is the correct answer but it was interesting that it took place immediately after I developed my feelings based far more on geology issues I have been watching. I also said people far more educated than me were watching things and that mine is just a feeling based on things I have been observing over the past severa years.

My wife who grew up in Indiana and since we are now in Missouri not escaping tornado alley, so I guess she knows these things, always calls a trailer park tornado spawning grounds.
