temp greens Cancel The title field is required!

   we have bermuda fairways and will need to use our fairways for temp greens. does anyone have any knowledge about how to make a puttable surface available while we reseed our greens. Blackwell ,okla.

   tif sport or 419 will handle .150 that will make an ok putting surface for temporary use along with lots of top dressing.

   It's been a few years, but, the process we used was to bury the area with sand prior to lowering the height. Then, once the turf begins to emerge and is fairly close to full coverage, begin mowing at the lower height. Continue this practice until scalping begins, then topdress some more. I've always typically kept temporary or chipping greens on 419 at a height of .250" and still provided a decent putting surface. Be realistic though and remember it is temporary and therefore putting condition expectations should reflect this. Only downside to this process is the extra topdressing will leave a raised area. Coring and rolling this area will help get it back to level with the surrounding turf.

   Did this a couple of years ago in 419 during construction:
   
   mark out the temp green, preferrably in the approach. Scalp it down, topdress and levellawn with green sand, cut a cup. It'll be fine.
