I have to give thanks to one of my least favorite presidents the late LBJ for making Memorial Day a permanent federal holiday. Of course like any good politician he moved the original date of May 30 to the last Monday of the month to make a 3 day weekend for federal employees........I would have expected nothing less.

Lets not forget the true meaning of this somber holiday........not the cold beer, the water melon the BBQ but to honor the fallen. Those that gave the supreme sacrifice for our great nation. Like many clubs around the country will fly American flags from our flagsticks and vets will play for free that day. Have fun and stay safe !

Proper flag etiquette ........The flag is run to the top on the pole and then lowered to half staff until noon. Then it returns to the top of the flag pole

These two were on my son's combat team in Afghanistan. They did not survive. (And neither did the guys who killed them.)

Thanks for the flag reminder David, one of the reasons I always work on Memorial Day is to make sure the flag is taken care of to honor those who served.

Quick question on protocol, I notice flags are placed on graves of service members regardless of if they were killed in action or luckily died of old age. Is it ok to honor those like my dad who have passed on Memorial Day or is that more a Veterans Day we honor his service? (heck I like to honor him all the time, but don't want to be offending to those that lost their loved ones in service of our country when I was lucky enough to have dad come back home).

    Thanks! Mel

And not political comments like LBJ made Memorial Day on Monday for the benefit of government employees. The two government employees I referenced did not get Mondays off and their loved ones never will.

You never cease to amaze me Scott..........for a guy that I have thought was very intelligent. Perhaps I have misjudged you. The comment that you took as politicial was not stated as such.........I would have expected the same of any president.........republican or democrat........it was more of a "typical politician move" and if you think otherwise then I feel sorry for you. You absolutely refuse to let any comment go unchallenged...... everything is political to you............. apparently is just your nature. Maybe one day you will rid yourself of this anger you have pent up inside.

PS I make a heart felt comment thanking you for posting Eriks two buddies who were KIA's Afghanistan and I get ripped.
