[attachment=0">image.jpeg[/attachment">I have an old Foley Bedknive grinder. I can't remember the model number, but its so old it needs a donkey to walk the stone around. Anyway, regardless of model, I'm curious how you guys set the front face and top face angles. What starting angle are you using to back off the 5 or so degrees?

To attempt to clarify, my greens knives have a flat surface where it mounts to the bedbar but it also has a flat surface at a different angle as you move toward the cutting edge (I've been using this one).

Which angle should I be starting with when backing off to grind?

You should be going off the flat part that the screw holes are in and back your degrees of angle you're grinding form that as your zero deg starting point if that makes sense.

I agree with Karl, go off flat surface that has the mounting holes for the screws.

You can use one of these to zero out on the bolt flat, like the others have mentioned, then reference the body of the motor to your desired angles, top and face. I wish I would have had one back when I had your same unit, I guessed, usually poorly.

Could have sworn I posted a reply to this but it seems to have gone awol. Anyway, you guys were right. I scratched the worn top face and then then compared that angle to both angles I was talking about on the bedbar. It matched perfectly with the bolted section of the knife.
