So I am a superintendent (forgive my stupidity, lol) and have an old ideal 55 grinder. It has a frame you attach bedknife to. The grinder is one that swings around and uses a flared stone. My question is when doing top face would you tilt bedknife down which lowers front face to bedknife or do you tilt bedknife backwards which raises front face. Thanks

If you're asking a general bedknife question, that answer depends on the unit it came from. But generally, almost all bedknives will take an 8* (thicker front face) tilt on top. The exception is intermediate cut units like Jake Tri-King and other "aggressive" heavy duty cutting units.

If you're sharpening a new bedknife, following the grind from the factory is usually exactly what the manufacturer suggests. Hand-scratch the stone to verify.
