It seems that seed heads may be popping early this year! I am guessing alot of things may be early this year, ABW, crabgrass, etc. Lucky us! Here is my dilemma. I usually go with two applications of primo/proxy. This year my first application should be the same week as my aerification, March 19th. How do you guys thinks this first application will effect my recovery? Yes i am aerifying early. I was planning on hitting my greens a couple of times with sprayable 21-0-0 prior to and just after i punch. Should i wait for my first primo/proxy ap till after(which i think may cause me to miss my window). Or should i do my first application earlier then planned(this may cause the nned for a third application)? I am in NJ with 3 USGA greens and the remainder being very heavy push ups.

Took a PGR seminar, and have spoken to peers about this same issue. Here is what most (to include a USGA greens section rep) are suggesting. Make [u">early[/u"> apps of Proxy by itself at the 3oz or 5oz rate, while the bentgrass is still dormant, and I assume your poa is green(er). Make successive app 2 to 4 weeks later depending on the rate used. This gap would allow for some healing from aerification before the second app. It was also suggested to just keep that ball rolling if necessary for suppression (up to 15oz total of Proxy!). Peers from the mid-Atlantic are reporting they will be making up to 3-5 apps of proxy at the lower rate.

I have always seen or used a Proxy 5oz / Primo .125oz application for the purpose of seed head suppression. I will be switching it up this year based on all this data. We will see how it works out. Good luck.
