I have Champion Bermuda, painted for winter, and pre-emerge down. I have some algae on a few spots on several greens. I sprayed Daconil action 10 days ago with no noticable reaction. Suggestions?

I am in central Arkansas and we have had slightly damp mild season so far, turf is only 70-75 % dormant.

    Will Zerotol work for you?

Sandy, I have never used Zerotol, I will look into it.

Fore or Dithane (Mancozeb) it works wonders. Daconil Zn is the best for algae out of the different Daconils out there. I just sprayed it at an 8 oz rate with excellent results.

We use Zerotol two mornings in a row followed by Protect DF in the afternoon of the second day. Protect is basically mancozeb, but much finer and seems to be more effective.

I once sprayed one gallon of bleach in 100 gallons of water and it worked fine.

Call Southern Ag and get some Sa20. It's labeled for turf and will knock the hell out of algae at 1 gal / acre.

I had very good success with this as well. I also used it on black-layer after spiking 4" with .25" solid tines with good success. We reapplied and spiked weekly and it really seemed to help.

Who is Southern Ag and what is Sa20?

You can get this stuff from a variety of suppliers and in different forms. It is also called RD-20 and you can get it from Ameriturf as a product called Prontech. Prontech has a urea component in it.

    It's pretty cheap, too.

I had an algae problem on one of my greens a couple years ago caused by over irrigating and I killed the heck out of it with 2 consecutive apps of SA20 at 1 gallon per acre, 2 days apart. It will also clean up any fungus you may have, but there is no residual protection.

    Regards,

    Steve

Any one have a guess on the shelf life of Zerotol? I have a bunch of unopeneded jugs that are at least 8 years old. ?

I am going to go with, it is still good. That is some pretty potent stuff. I sprayed it at 1 gal/A in 40 gallons of water. When I was done I put another 40 gallons of water in the tank to clean the tank and sprayed out the rinsate. I got a little on a cart path and it foamed up. It has a Danger Label for a reason I guess!

I had algae on Tifeagle pretty bad last year because of the warm wet temps. I would needle tine at least 2X's per month, rotate Junction, Fore, Zerotol and Daconil ZN every seven or so days. We also used Profile in the heavy areas which would suck the moisture out of it and last for a little while. I also put down bleach at 1 gal per 100gal of H2O to save a little on the budget. Spots stayed in control but recovery was minimal. Good Luck.

Last time I looked, bleach was not labeled for use on turf.

I forgot, but the Profile does work well for drying up algae. I also like it in my Gash-B-Gone for ballmarks too.

Another positive for ZeroTol is that has helped my with bacteria decline. I dont have an algae problem but Im sure it will do the job. I went out at 12 0z per 1000, 3 days in a row right after its mowed.

Zerotol will be in my program for next year. Be very careful and wear gloves. Very potent stuff. It will turn your skin white...very white.
