We are using a TORO 5210, bench setting is .550. Fairways are predominantly ryegrass with poa and very little bent sprinkled in. Our unit's ground speed is set at 5mph and the setting for the reels are at 7. This feels very slow when we mow. We have 17.5 acres of fairways. it takes us about 5.5 - 6 hours to mow fairways. We have one mower. Play usually does catch us. Maybe with no play we could do it in 5hrs.

What speed and setting are you guys using?

Other sidenotes: we hammer them with 25oz/A of Primo every 2 weeks. Dabbled a little with Legacy end of this year to get more regulation. Will try more next year.

    Jeremy,

Doing some quick thinking here but without the blade count can't be exactly sure of mow speed. Assuming you are running 5 inch reel with 8 blade, according to the chart in the operators manual you can go to a reel setting of 9 and a ground speed of 7.5, using the 7 inch reel with 8 blade the settings would be 9 for the reel speed setting and 6.5 for the ground speed. This will decrease you mow time considerably. Very nice of Toro to add that handy chart in the operators manual to determine settings :)

While I cannot tell you our exact mowing speed off hand I can tell you that we change ours as the grass gets thicker. We have a lot of common that does not get thick until August so we run it much faster throughout the rest of the year and just slow it down for the months where the grass is the thickest. We generally just watch the quailty if the cut to tell us when we have to slwo it down.

    Jeremy,

I mow around 5 mph with 5410s and collect clippings. Not sure what your mowing schedule is, but have you considered mowing 9-holes each day? Your fwy mower would likely be done in 3 hrs or so and likely before play interrupts efficiency. The operator could then be utilized elsewhere for the remainder of the morning or day. I'm at a private Club and have been alternating front 9/ Back 9 on Sunday - Thursday. All 18 are done on Friday. Each fwy gets mowed 3x/week. In almost 8 years, I've never been questioned on any unmowed fairways.

    Just a thought

We bumped ours up to 6.5 mph. also lowered the height from .6" to .5" They look great! With the slower time of year we have been alternating front back. Will play it by ear come next season
