How many steps do you use when setting tee markers.
Do you use 3,4,5,6??? Or do you use the entire Tee even if the tee is 8 or 9 or 10 steps?

    Thanks for your input!!

From a golfer standpoint I would prefer you use the whole tee from side to side. Maybe even set each marker just off the edge of the tee box saving your tee mower guy some time.

Normally 5 easy steps, but last fall we removed the markers to see how golfers would react. They were very happy to be able to tee off wherever they felt comfortable, so this year as we just opened, we have continued with no markers. Not sure how long I will be able to do this for but so much easier and seems to be easier on the teeing surfaces.

6 however each man has to do his step because I like 16 feet so some people 7 and some 6.

I was taught 6 good steps for the par 5's, 7 good steps for par 4's and 8 good steps for par 3's. Unfortunately, I can't use that method at my current job, my par 3 tees are smaller than my par 5 tees.

I use 5 unless the tee is only 7 and then I might use it all leaving them a foot inside the rough.

We pick up our tee markers the last couple weeks of the year and this spring have been open 5 weeks without markers. It sure saves a lot of time in the shoulder season. To the great sadness of the tee mowers they are going back out tomorrow as leagues and high school matches start.

6 or 7 paces or half of the tee whichever is greater. Unless the tee is narrow then I will give the whole tee.

We went to one tee marker last summer. I'm still seeing a psychologist for the verbal assault I took. Back to 2 this year at 7 paces wide. That also means back to markers pointed in the woods lol.

15 Feet... that is the width of my spray booms. I can't run them over.

Center placement on the tees from Labor Day to Memorial day.

Andrew, were you not the one who talked about removing the markers altogether last year? That did not work out?

Owner was 100% behind it. We did it for a few weeks and it did not go over well. So we compromised by using 1 marker, and, it was equally hated. So we have 2 back out to start this year. But, we ditched the color coded flag system on greens and went with a nice logo flag for our 35th Anniversary season. Picking my poison and fights I guess...

Our tee widths vary from 25 to 35 feet wide, so we run the tee markers 1 foot off each side of the tee. The 35 feet wide does not give us room to have 2 tee areas wide, so we just give them the full width. Gives a clean and consistent look through the course.

Thanks Cecil! We're coming along pretty well. Just need more of this hot and dry to get things jumping. Come over and see us some time!

Short people - 5 paces. Tall People 4 paces. In the tee is smaller than the paces outlined then its from one side to the other. Works out pretty evenly...

Just started three paces due to my greens chairman. Apparntly we have a few that do not like it and they move them to where they want them!
