    Hello all,
We are looking to purchase a golf course that currently has a late 90s early 2000s Rainbird decoder system. Im looking to talk with anyone who has a similar system and can help me learn what we may be walking into. I can be reached at bearcreekgcs@gmail.com or 314 265 4319

    Thanks for the help,

    Ben

    Hi Thomas -

I had a previous position where I had an "early generation" RB decoder system. After learning how it works and repairing what wasn't working, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The decoders have a reasonably long life, unless you are prone to lightning events. Our biggest problem being the quality of workmanship at installation was poor. We repaired many inadequate splices and wire jacket "nicks" due to carelessness. Other than that, it was a pretty good system. I recommend having a "back-up" computer (laptap) with the central RB program loaded in it. Your local distributor can do that for you. Without a central working, you will have a manual irrigation system to flag key run. Ugh !  I also recommend having an extra 2 way radio or two around. I liked the ease of adding new sprinklers to the control system with the decoder system, more so than a satelite controller system.
    Good luck.
