We have an 92, 48 volt(6x8 volt) Club Car. The cart only travels at maybe half the regular speed. The cart will start off quick and then slow right down and this happens even after a night of charging. The batteries are 2 months old. We have discovered that the last battery in the series(it has the positive cable going to the starter/generator) with a hydrometer test is faulty. We have replaced this battery under warranty once already. This battery is only 1 month old.
After the all the batteries were changed over to new, one of the posts melted and needed to be re-poured and recharged. We then replaced all of the cables and connectors. The cart ran properly for a month after that. We disconnected the lights to see if this was the issue and no.

Electric carts are not my strong suit. Stumped.
Why would the same new battery in the series not charge?
Would this cause the cart to travel very slowly?
What maybe the issue causing this?

I would have your dealer plug-in to it and get a reading instead of chasing parts/problems. However, your dropping off in speed sounds like the speed sensor to me. We had an issue similar to yours and was the speed sensor.

I agree with Skip on the speed sensor that's exactly what the drop off in speed sounds like. Having the dealer come out and hooking up to the computer will help in diagnosing the charging problem, you might also want to ask them about purchasing the IQDM hand held computer so that you don't need them to always come out to hook it up, that way you can hook it up and then check the faults yourself. Its very quick and easy to do
