Our club has been approached about making an 18 hole footgolf course on our front nine. I'm sceptical but also see the potential for increased revenue. Apparantly this is the latest craze and courses are popping up everywhere. Anyone have any experience with this on your course or can share any stories? Dan, Kragero,Norway

A couple courses in Sacramento are already scheduling skins games.

We are looking at alternative ways to generate income and have been approached about making a footgolf course on our front 9 and short course. I am sceptical but also see the potential income here. We can make an 18hole layout on our front 9 and another 6 hole layout on our practice course. We will primarily use the short course for events here at the resort but also need a larger course for big happenings, which is why we will need to use our front 9. We are playing around with ideas on how to make this work without pissing off our golfers. We 'tee off' from the reds and the holes are placed in rough areas and out of the way so no danger to greens here. We are a busy resort in the summer but the course is very empty otherwise so we can make this work if thought through properly.

Norway is crazy about soccer but not so much golf. I think this will be a hit here as entire families can now enjoy the course, instead of just dad out playing- most anyone can kick a soccerball! Apparantly this is the latest craze in the states. Anyone have any info to share?

    Daniel,

We are going forward on our FootGolf course.
There was an earlier post on 12/12 that got me looking into FootGolf.
I have no clue (nor do I want to learn) on how to do a Blog concerning our implementation of this new sport.
Therefore, I will update here on the Forum of our progress.
I just added FootGolf to the Spell check dictionary to avoid the annoying prompt!
First of all I do not think this sport is going to be a fad.
When I explain the sport to people their responses are "cool", "makes sense", "sounds like fun", "this will be played on the golf course?" yes, " kinda like Frisbee golf" yes and no.
When I explain the sport to the banker, wife, staff and fellow superintendents their response is hmmm... this could be big!
During my explanation to the latter, I ask them if you have a 12 year old and you ask his or her 22 classmates "How many of you golf?" you might get 1 or 2 for an answer. Now if you asked "How many of you play soccer?" the answer would be all of them!
Now our challenge is to get them to pay and play at our FootGolf course.
We are going to include FootGolf into our membership and accept fee play as well.
The course will be the first in Kansas, 18 holes par 72,located with in our 2100 yd par 30 golf course and have lids to cover the holes is desired when not in use. Ours will remain open at all times.
18 holes of FootGolf takes @1.75 -2 hours to play. The regular golf course takes the same time to play 9 holes.
That is why we went with 18 holes of FootGolf to avoid bunching up on the course.
Yes, we are going to offer both sports at the same time using existing tee sheet.
We have not identified the hours of Footgolf yet but will probably limit it to afternoons help prevent "the grumpy old men syndrome". This sport is so new that feedback on it is limited but some that we have attained is as follows: Price it around $15 for adults, juniors less, limit hours to allow traditional golfers times to avoid FootGolfers, FootGolfers do rent golf carts, AFGL has rules and a standard cup, and now to etiquette.
As we all know golfer etiquette is a problem for many of us already so what about FootGolf?
We are going to assume they know nothing about golf courses, the game of honor and certainly the rules of FootGolf. So we have a video posted on our website provided by AFGL that gives them basics of no cleats, running, yelling, raking bunkers etc. We plan to set up some sort of signature test/card explaining further rules that each player will have to sign.
They then will logged onto our Starter Hut software as aware of the rules and understand this test/card is informative and considered by us the "first warning".
My fingers are getting tired so to wrap up I think FootGolf is going to catch on.
GCSAA are you reading this post? Be Prepared!
I see that municpally owned courses have started the FootGolf wave here in the States. I expect resort courses and privately held courses like ourselves to ride it next and then onto other courses.
What are the questions and comments out there?
