My current Equipment Tech is scheduled to retire at the end of this month, so now I need to advertise for a new tech. My board has been dragging their rumps on giving me the ok to advertise the position or a wage level for the position. I plan on placing an add next Monday regardless of their eneptitide. It has been ten years since I have had to hire a tech and was wondering if anyone has any ideas of what I should print in the add. I already plan on asking for experience in Diesele and gas engines, hydrostatic drives and hydraulic systems as well as electrical troubleshooting. I plan on just placing salary negotiable upon experience since I still do not have a true idea of what they will pay (our tech now earns $16hr).

Any other ideas I should put in the add.

    James,

I have had the chance to hire two mechanics in two years. I hired a young 26 year old that was too good to be true. He found a higher paying job 10 mo. after I hired him. He truly was a good one. Now I have an older mechanic that I feel will be with the club as long as he can work. Watch the younger talent as you might be looking again sooner then you want. Be careful. As far as your ad, does your mechanic have to help out on the course when shop time is caught up? Make sure you make this clear before hiring someone. Some mechanics hate working outside their shop. Mine mows fairways and anything else I need. Hope this helps.

My older tech does not help out on the course but that has been my choice to this point. I would rather have someone in my shop at all times just to keep things from walking. I may be open to letting one do some minor cutting from time to time but with my older equipment he pretty much keeps busy and when he does get down time he generally walks out and chips balls from the back of the driving range which is around my shop area.

Update, we offered my tech a $3 raise to stay until December and he has agreed. This will allow me the time to get another one in before he leaves and a possible vacation for my self also.
