So we purchased a used 3245C John Deere last summer. A good unit for a fair price and it cuts great.
However, the front rollers assemblies were wore out and I posted a question earlier about rebuilding these or
using the JD 8800 system for replacement. Anyways, the price to replace the entire front roller was over $250 each!
Yes, they were that bad. So I was ordering parts for our Toro 3100 when I can across the 3.5" 2 section plastic roller assembly from R&R # R150330 for $90 each. I got to wondering would these fit? Yes, so we are going to try those. All we have to do grind down a flat area on the shaft to seat into the bracket. I can't figure out to post a picture but I will let you all know how it works out.

Love to see how that works out. I think you asked about that machine a while back and I commented. I too had tons of issues with the rollers. In fact rebuilding some today.

I have a JD 8800 wrapped in plastic because the operator was almost killed and was in a coma for a month.

JD decided with this model to discontinue the directional brakes because the hydraulics drive motors are so strong. An interior bolt inside the front right wheel motor broke off and all the hydraulic fluid and the half of the bolt returned to the reservoir leaving the machine without traction, steering, or obviously the ability to cut.

Not a pretty picture. There are 7 bolts inside each motor of 10mm in diameter and about 2 centimeters inside the solid base.

So 28 bolts x 10mm in diameter x 2 cm of metal has to bear all the stress of traction, steering, and cutting.

JD are very aware of this and I hope they do something about it so this does not happen to another operator.

I agree that the 3245C rough mower had issues with the rollers. That machine is close to BC in age now and the newer 8800's are much improved. I run two of them year round and they "Rock". Any issue I have had with JD equipment has been satisfied through our distributor with fairness. If they can't handle it John Deere has always backed their products. :D

Jason, The JD 8800 performed circles around the new Toro 3500 and 4500 that we have since purchased.

Toro seem to think that weight and fuel consumption are best to maximize. The JD 8800 does not perform well with no hydraulic oil in the system.

Update, this idea is working great. $100 per unit new rollers.
