We are starting to get more and more members with personal carts and I was wondering if anyone has any written guidelines set up for tire specs? I have a feeling that if we don't put something into place, a member could just keep asking key club personnel at the club if the tires are approved until finally they get a yes which trumps all the nos they receive.

    Thanks.

    Steve,

We require all carts that will be utilized on the golf course to have turf tires. Any variance to this must be approved by the Golf Course Superintendent in advance. We have several residents that have lift kits and knobby tires, and we do not allow those on the course. We also limit which carts can be driven on the course. For instance, several members have the Gem carts, and we only allow the e2 and e4 to be used, no other model. This is due to weight and length more than anything.

We also have annual golf cart permitting, which includes proof of insurance, driver's license, liability waiver, safety check and registration. No cart can be operated within our community without going through this approval process. With over 4,000 private carts, this is a daunting process, but can be achieved when spread out over a two-month period.

Your written policy could state that tires need to be approved by one specific person, you. We have many personal carts here and either myself or my boss have to approve them. He always defers to me for final say. I know at many courses, Andy Jorgensens for one, all personal carts get a yearly inspection before they are allowed on the course.

Of course as I go to post this Andy has already beat me to the punch.

No golf today for either one of us....nothing to do but sit around and post on GCSAA.
