My owner wants all of the bermudagrass encroaching into/onto the asphalt cart paths physically removed. Anyone have some good suggestions? As you know the path borders are inconsistent at best, and it is very difficult to establish a good, uniform, crisp edge. In some places, over the years, the bermuda has moved onto the asphalt a good 8-10 inches.

All that I have seen that works is physical removal, then ongoing maintenance with Roundup sprays. If you don't spray it, eventually the Bermuda will cause the asphalt to break apart and crumble.

We overlaid some paths some years ago and our greens committee guy thought we wouldn't need to do any more than scrape off the grass from the top. Within a few weeks we had nice, green Bermuda coming up through the newly laid asphalt.

I have had good luck with a wire brush wheel on an edger for edging asphalt paths and for removing runners out of expansion joints on concrete.

You first make an edge with the stick edger ( I know they are irregular and all, you just try to make it as neat and straight as possible) then come back with the wire wheel. Works pretty good, once that is cleaned up I used a walk behind roller applicator with round up.

    Good luck!
