Bedknife Attitude Cancel The title field is required!

   I am looking to find out what others are doing for bedknife attitude. We have a set of 11 blade, single point adjust Toro reels. We are currently cutting at a HOC of .090". There are a few settings for bedknife attitude (A, B,C,D, E). If any of you are using the same reels with a similar HOC or lower, I was wondering what attitude setting you are using.

   I will get with my mechanic on Tuesday and let you know. I do not know personally. When I was selling equipment I tried setting up a fairway mower according to the manual. The cut was not good. I called the manufacturer and spoke to their traveling troubleshooter. He gave me a different angle than the manual and the cut was perfect. As I recall the new angle was significantly more aggressive than the manual.

   On the new Toro Tri-plex mowers there are only two ways I know of to change the attack. Either change the size of the rear roller or move the spacer from the top to the bottom on the rear roller. We go as up rite as possible. With the setting that comes from the factory I have found the bedknife skips if the green does not have any moisture on it. Plus it helps us get into the canopy to cut. We are mowing anywhere from .090 to .130 depending on the time of year.

   Use a magnetic protractor, and use a metal hoc bar, set on rollers as if you were checking the hoc, place the protractor on it and get your degrees. then place it on the bottom of your bedknife and get your degree there, then subtract the two and that's your bedknife attitude angle. Say 64 and 70 , would give you a 6 degree attitude or attack angle. We like to run between 4 and 6 degrees, pretty flat, less aggressive with little to no overlap lines. Our grinding angles are, 7 top, and 15 front. We will run these same angles on the Toro flex 21's and the JD QA-5 11 blade units. I don't really concern myself with the numbers or letters for settings, just measure and set to the degree we like.

   The books talk about B thru E.B is for the lower hieghts of cut.I was once told you can't really go to.090 due to the thickness of the bedknives.Since that time they have come out with thinner bedknives.It would stand to reason that setting A would accomodate those hieghts.I have not used this setting but would feel comfortable trying it.
