Trying to get ready for a first application for Goose Grass. As soon as my aerification holes are covered I plan on treating my greens. I have used Illoxin in the past as well as Revolver the last three years but it seems both had started having less control over time. Thinking about going back to the Illoxin since its been a while. Any newer chemicals that are working?

They stopped making Illoxan a couple years ago. Tribute Total, but it's not labeled for greens. Sharp knife? Same issue with Revolver here. Starting having resistance issues in the 3rd year of use. Now pretty much useless against goosegrass for me.

The key is making applications early enough to catch the plant while its small and not visible. The past two years we have made applications of Revolver in early April - mainly to catch late season Poa - but have had great success also catching the early season Goose. Will make more applications in early June and again in August.

has anyone added Dismiss at 4oz/acre to the revolver. my chemical rep is saying that is the new thing. a little bruising but no other issues.

    If so, whats your opinion?

I don't think I have heard it used on greens, but saw somebody do that mix on fairways, so I tried it on Quickstand fairways with fairly mature goosegrass, boy did it smoke that goose. 16 oz of Revolver per acre and 6 oz of Dismiss per acre.

My TifEagle has always been pretty hardy so I think I'll run a test area to see what happens. Got it on order now so well see.

I've messed around a little with Dismiss (NOT Dismiss Southern) on Champion and had reasonable success although I've never gotten up to 4oz.

Might have to give it another go around aerification time as I'm seeing the same resistance issues as others with Revolver and this is having done early apps.

The other thing I'm flirting with the idea of is Sencor at a third of a pound per acre, watered in (6-8 mins) immediately after you get off the green. I know some guys have had great success doing this, never had the cojones to try it myself though....yet!

Its easy enough to just mix an acre and make a pass on the back corner of a putting green and then use the rest on the slopes or roughs. I did this one year with 3-way,msma and sencor but boy did it smoke it! came back in about 7-10 days and very clean but not something I would do to a whole green.

We started dabbing Pylex on our goosegrass using a small sponge wand dabber. Nukes the goosegrass!! A mixture of Pylex, MSO and iron.

We did 4oz/ac Dismiss South with 21oz/ac Revolver on 328 greens the spring before we ripped them up. It knocked the Goose back for a few weeks, but it came right back soon after. I think the Dismiss burns it down before the Revolver can be taken up.

I got desperate late one summer and spot sprayed Dismiss for goosegrass and it wiped it out initially....and burned the bermuda. The goosegrass did come back. Not doing that again. Maybe if I sprinkle some glitter on it Andy?

this is interesting, I wonder if using the revolver a week before would make a difference.

Could it possibly be a height of cut issue also? Seeing Andy used it on greens? Keith was yours on greens also?

Unless you have resistant plants, the key to any program is retreating at signs of new growth. Eventually the plant will use up all the stored carbohydrates and die. For Goose on greens, this could mean multiple applications 21-24 days apart all summer.

    Good morning, all!
Sounds like you are getting lots of good advice, things to try (I especially like the glitter!) but thought I'd chime in that in a couple of weeks Scott McElroy, Ph.D., is teaching a webinar for us that will cover some of the science. I know that may be a little late but you can enroll here:

    Thanks Lisa. Very timely!

(P.S. - I'll put you on the glitter mailing list!)

I do agree with you on the multiple apps but summer is my main time of the year to get my aerifications done and I do not like spraying within 21 days of one or until they have completely healed over. This limits my applications severely.

Maybe this thinking is not right and I need to adjust it some but healing over quickly is a big point with my board members.

The more I think about timing of the two herbicides the more I am considering spraying them separate. I am really hoping that this will help take out my Killinga. I can bruise it back but getting it out seems to be a nightmare.

I've never had an issue with Revolver stunting my growth. Used to spray it the Friday before the first aerification to take out the overseed. Spray it now when ever the schedule dictates.

I used the Sencor mixed with Three way and MSMA on a corner of my green once. boy did it brown out. about 7-10 days it was back green again and clean but I would never repeat that on all of my greens.
