    A while back, several of us talked about our efforts to either get fit , lose weight or both. How are all of you doing, are you sticking with it? Back and knees are never going to get better but I have taken off and kept off probably 35 pounds for a year. Walking as much as possible everyday, using the stationary bike and getting out and riding my real bike and doing several stomach and light arm exercises that fit my damaged rotator cuffs. Feeling pretty good and hoping all of you are sticking with it and doing well also. I have become very conscious of what I eat over the past year. Hopefully, I have made this a lifestyle. If I can strengthen the rotator cuffs a little more, surfing will start up again for the first time in years. It isn't the surfing that is hard, it is the paddling! Not bad though for a guy approaching 68!

    Sandy,

    Glad you are walking everyday. Up here in New England, if we step out of the house we will probably freeze right in our tracks. Glad your in good shape, Mr. Obama will certainly be proud of you. Maybe Scott will send him a message. I would, but I forgot the address. I know it's either Kenya, Washington D.C. or Hawaii.

    Well, anyway keep up the good work and get that Surf Board working.

    Will do Captain! Water temperature is unusually warm for this time of year, up to 65, usually around 57 in March. Maybe this is a hint of the developing El Nino! I have it worked out so I can get 5 miles a day walking just at work without becoming a sweaty mess. Walk the front 9 early before golfers and then walk down to the golf shop twice during the day to drop off and pick up mail. Working out well while it is cool. Not sure if that works as we get closer to summer.

    Larry;

    How do you get Workman's Comp. by pulling your shoulder muscle when you woke up this morning. That did not happen on the job or did it.

    Started way to close to 200 for a guy that is five foot seven and shrinking from arthritis. Now sitting at 162. Killing myself to get it off and firm it up but it is worth every minute of it. Pushing 68, I am down to a 33 waist, going on 20 mile bike rides, punishing myself for an hour and a half on the stationary bike, walking at least 4 miles everyday and working with one of those exercise balls. I have about 5 or more stomach exercises I do and I work out with only 4 pound weights due to rotator cuff issues. I was the poster buy for having excuses not to get started. Pretty bad for a guy that played hard ball until 50, ran marathons and was a jock all my life. I have gone from giving up and accepting the pain to feeling good about being really active. Blood pressure is consistently 118 over 60, cholesterol is 153 and all my other vitals check out equal to a 30 year old. So for those that think I am too old, too sick, too beat up, shelve the excuses and start making yourselves feel better! If I am going to reach 100, which I probably will due to genetics, I plan to participate in every last day of it. You feel so much better in clothes, you will feel and look younger, so what excuses do you have? Don't tell me work is in the way because I have 4 pound weights in my office and much of the walking is done around the golf course. Get busy and feel good!

    Sandy and Steve,

    I am with you, after my battle with epilepsy and brain surgery now seizure free for almost 3 years it is my job to return to life. I do often share my story and just worked as a volunteer in the National Epilepsy Foundation Fund Raising walk in Washington DC my home town over a week ago. I to exercise hard on my bicycle, riding all winter on the indoor bike rack 6 days a week for an hour, and now trying to get outside as the weather permits here in the Chicago chilly late to come Spring. In fact I just got a new bike as my old one was worn out and to repair it was not worth just going for a new one. I am 53 and in the best shape I have ever been in can do 13 to 15 miles in one hour outside depending on wind and weather. I am trying to potentially ride with my brother and cousin in a event in New York called the 5 borough ramble, 20 mile race all bicyclists travel the 5 boroughs of New York City. I know I can make the distance just my ability to get the weekend off work. I keep my golf game good and my body back in order again. All that counts is providing my good attitude with those I work with every day, showing them I do whatever it takes to get the job done like they do. I also share HOPE Helping Other People with Epilepsy as one who won the battle it is my job now to assist others!
