Has anybody had any experience with controlling Coots in your fairways? I have a severe problem with them eating my ryegrass in the fairways and they leave quite a mess. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Besides purchasing a dog to roam around, there must be other methods. Thanks

If you have some out-of-play space, you can setup a feeding station. You will need to train the coots by feeding twice per day. This works well if you are consistent with the feeding - the cootc just stay in the area. You will have to have water nearby, but I suspect that there is a water feature near the fairway you are having problems with. There is photo from La Cumbre Country Club in Santa Barbara.

    Thanks Larry for the photo...

I must have different coots in my fairways, they have gray hair and pull golf clubs behind them...plus they get real close to our greens.

    Mel,

I'm a little worried because I was thinking the exact same thing you so boldly posted. Only difference is that ours think it is ok to take the shortcut right over the greens. Municipal golfers at their best!!!!

Try Spotrete fungicide. We spray all of our problem areas (holes with water on them) every three to four weeks in the winter months. They don't like the taste and feast on out of play areas instead. Hope this helps.

Look in to a bird banger gun. Works good for our geese.

Don't bother. It does not even faze them.

    Keith,

You and I both know that variety heads south for the winter. Hopefully to Steve's and Scott's.

Screw them, they need to migrate to Riverview.
