I have been approached about having a big cup outing at our facility. I have never experienced this before but have looked in the Standard book and seen that they sell 6inch cups and cup cutters. If anyone has done this before, your input would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

We are hosting a big cup, small cup and regular cup tournament on July 4th coupled with 18 holes played on our miniature golf course. You'll need to make sure you have the cup cutter though as well. The cost is probably more than we will make on this one event, but we can use them other times to make it worthwhile.

We will be doing a big cup event on July 7th. We had put the big cups out on one of our three nines a couple of fall's ago. They are a pain in the ass to cut (pushup greens) and a pain in the ass to replace. I do the things I am asked to do though, so we'll trudge through cutting holes for our 13 hole big cup event. Its a lot of work for a one day event, but players HATED them out there full-time.

use the turf repair cutter and then cut a standard cup in the bottom of it...same idea, less the supplies, worked great for temp greens

Just had our annual 8" Cup tournament (14th year and 144 golfers). The actual installation of the cups isn't that hard just a little time consuming, probably took an additional 1/2 hour to set the cups. The time to re-install the plug takes a bit more. We have 93/7 sand based greens making this process quite a bit easier than push up greens, did that many years ago - they aren't fun. We do the 8" cups for a few of our outings as well.

Standard makes a newer, shorter version of the big cup. It allows you to cut the cup in only one cut. If you get the taller ones, you have to take two cuts with the Standard cutter.

We used to have a big cup event every fall. What I would do is use the "big cup" cutter but only cut it in an inch or two deep, then cut a standard cup in the center of that hole to put the flag in. Made it much easier to set the cup and reset the shallower plug when we were done. It also saves the expense of purchasing big cups.
