It seems it's everywhere now and recently I was touched by itself myself........only property and it can easily be replaced. My truck was vandalized recently and I am to blame to a degree as one of my back windows was left partially down. At 2:00 am recently I was awakened by my truck alarm going off. I jumped up and slipped on a pair of shorts and sneakers, grabbed a pistol and ran out the house. Too late obviously as even with the alarm light blinking the thief unlatched the back door lock with a coat hanger I am assuming, opened the door and grabbed my work cell phone on my console, a laptop off the back seat and reached under my seat and also took a pistol. A day wasted with the police and my insurance agent dealing with the property loss and a word of warning never have a gun stolen. You would have thought I was the criminal.........I provided the serial number, the date of purchase and a print out photo of the gun from my PC to the sheriff's office......legally purchased and legal in Louisiana to carry in ones vehicle......an extension of ones home. That laptop thanks goodness had nothing of value on it, used by my wife and I when traveling, of course the phone had a hundred of phone contacts now lost. But its only property......it can be replaced.

Over the weekend the son of a BR city councilman's son was shot while attempting to buy some grass in a drug deal gone bad........16 yo and now paralyzed from the neck down after the dealer decided to rob them instead of selling to them.......a shot to the kids chest severed his spinal cord. All you young guys with families........protect them with your life.......they are your most precious possession.

    David,

How rough is your neighborhood that you need to pack iron in the car? It's not surprising you were robbed there.

Yeah David, I thought you could kill a man with the car cigarette lighter so what's the deal with the gun? BTW, had you been man enough to own a Pacifica, this would not be an issue - no one ever breaks into a Pacifica.

Clay, sorry to "break in" (get it break in...i kill myself!)to your theory, but...my wife's station-wagon..err..mini van..oops I mean crossover ...aw heck her pacifica got broken into a few years back we we lived in Ft. Lauderdale. She left her gym bag on the front seat...poor bastards got a bag full of sweaty, stinky gym clothes and an i-pod full of 80 hairbands!... And we got a bill for $200 to replace the window.

Crime is everywhere no matter how nice, or how bad of an area you live..sad when a man would rather steal the work for what he wants.

Actually my neighborhood is very good....homes from $250 k and up.........but not to far away you have elements that are not so nice...........have carried a gun in a vehicle as long as I have had a gun or a vehicle.

I guess a Toyota Tacoma was a more appealing target than a Pacifica........the chick magnet

They don't break into a Pacifica because of shear fear. Leroy Brown even crosses the street when he sees the gleaming shimmer of a soccer-mom Pacifica. It' s baaaa-ad mamma jamma.

To each his own I guess. We all get what we deserve eventually. I like you, DMC, but you're a fool for leaving a firearm in an unattended vehicle. Doing that because it's an "extension of one's home" is a ridiculous and irresponsible notion.

And now you get to live with the thought of your gun being used to kill or maim another councilman's kid, or friends daughter, etc. etc. So was it worth it?

Is exercising the "right" to store a firearm in your vehicle worth how much more dangerous you just made your community? I'm honestly shocked at you.

I know you southern boys like your guns close, but leaving them in a car of all places, and on the street, is just plain asking for bad stuff to happen.

Damn, Dave! You better hope someone doesn't get killed with your own gun.

Three good friends of mine are cops and they ALL keep their firearms in a lock box when at home. Granted, that's because of their young kids. Not saying you don't have the right, but any good attorney is going to point out the fact that you should have brought the firearm inside, rather than leave it in a vehicle. "Extension of your home" or not, they could nail you.

I can hear him now..."It would have taken him an extra minute to retrieve the firearm from under the seat and taken it inside. There's now another gun on the streets." He wouldn't even have to touch the Second Amendment....he'll just ask the jury to consider "carelessness".

Again, it sounds like you're completely legal, and I support your rights, but if Louisiana has a "carry law".....then "carry" the damn thing into the house. Man, not looking forward to a future post stating, "lost life savings in court". Ya'll hear what I be sayin"?

Gun has been reported stolen, serial number and photo of the gun given to law enforcement. No the real foolish thing was leaving a window partially down so someone even with the alarm on could unlock the door. Very stupid indeed.

Sorry to hear that DMAC, hope everything works out. A few years ago my little car was broken into (well, it was opened up, I never locked the thing), they took my kid's putter out of the hatchback. They had rifled through the glove box but didn't take anything. I had the entire AC/DC Bon Scott collection of CD's in there from High Voltage up to Powerage and they left them. I guess they weren't fans.

You were a little hard on the Beaver the other night weren't you Ward? Everything was legal-like.

Its the same thing as leaving it in the house and someone steals it. Lets not forget the fact that there was a crime committed, someone had to break the law to get it. Now it is his responsibility (the criminal) what he does with it. David did not leave it on the hood, it was in his property..

    But it isn't the same.

You want to believe it's the same and I'm sure we all wish we lived in a world where it's the same.
...but we don't, and it isn't.

We have unsavory folks on the planet, yes? Enough that some of us actually feel the need to own guns and keep them with us in our cars and houses for protection, yes?

So, why would anyone leave a cell phone, wallet, or valuables of any sort in a car, and think they aren't risking them being stolen?
It's odd. It's odd to be so wary of the "bad people", but then go and leave valuable stuff in your car and expect it to be there when you get back.
    I don't get the logic

All I think is Dave has been taking a risk for years with it and finally got burned. Too bad. End of story.
