Toro 3100 engine shelled this morning. Looking for some input on replacement options. I have looked at r&r vs. repower specialists. Quite a bit of difference in price between the two. Says they are same engine. Any pro's or con's going with r&r? Haven't called toro yet. I'm sure they are the most expensive of all.

    Who was cheaper?

I've bought many engines from Repower Specialists. Can't beat their service and free shipping.

Nothing wrong with r&r I have always been satisfied with their products top to bottom.

We've always purchased our Briggs replacement engines, (Kohler too) from a local engine shop, for our Ransomes 18 hp Briggs it's cost us about $1,200.

As long as all the numbers are the same, go with the cheaper one. I have bought a few engines from R&R before and have had no issues. Never dealt with Repower Specialists but have heard they are a good company also. Check with Stens also. We just bought an engine for a Carryall and saved $800 from Stens compared to Toro and other companies.
    Good Luck

We did have an engine go out at one of our other courses in the Toro 3150, our local dealers could not get the same engine (they entered the numbers and they were told it was a preparatory engine). R and R showed it but also showed some other couplers and stuff to go with it.

Our mechanic ended up ordering from Toro, it wasn't $1200 either.

We just put a B&S on an Toro 3100. Got the engine from R&R and have had no problems. They come with a key switch and all hooked up but you just disconnect it and run to the machine. You will have to set the governor and throttle on it.
