Anyone have any experience with spectacle? I am wanting to clean up our Bermuda roughs for winter but worried spectacle could move into the fescue rough bordering the Bermuda. Not sure how much or if it will move?

Works great on poa, goose and crab but it is weak on broadleaves in my opinion. Long residual and if your bermuda is thin or stressed it will not let it peg down and spread. Stayed away from bentgrass greens by 25 feet and much farther on uphill sides because I have heard it can move well but haven't experienced it.

I spray it around our greens with a 4 ft buffer. Bermuda greens. I haven't seen it move enough to harm us but watch out for heavy rainfall for several days after app is made. I am careful.

I was told the heavier the soil, the less it moves. It is also very important to water in shallow and frequent for several days after app. I sprayed it early last spring and in some places put it right next to overseeded rye and saw no movement. BUT, I have very heavy soils and it was dry for weeks after the application.

    Exactly right.

Saw some movement last year into our overseeded rye fairways after a head stuck on over night, even with a heavier soil. Lightly watering in right away this time just to see if it minimizes movement. We drop spreader our fairway perimeters this year with the new granular for improved accuracy then tie-in with the spray rig. Dropped it right on the edge of the fairway just as we did with Surflan previously. Aside from a few minor issues, very pleased with the product. Just have some charcoal on handy for any $@&€-ups! Seed will germinate fine if you get the charcoal out pretty quickly.

What rate has been used to neutralize the Spect(i)cal? I am adding some out of play areas to my overseed that have already been sprayed.

    Derek,

We had a hose blow on our spray rig while spraying Specticle. Although the area did not completely die within a few weeks, it was injured enough that we went ahead and sodded it. We stripped the dead turf, mixed 2.5 gallons of liquid charcoal in about 200 gallons of water, and liberally watered the area with the mix. We waited a day, then sodded. No issues.

I would think that applying via a sprayer may not provide enough charcoal concentration to the depth you would need for the seed, unless you were applying at a high volume to penetrate into the soil. Simply spraying, then watering may dilute the mix too much and cause it to move past your seedbed. If you have the ability to gun it out - apply like watering the turf - then it should work. Aerifying would probably help, too.

    Andy,
Thanks for the info. I went out at a rate of 290 pounds of activated charcoal per acre and watered it in. Bayer reps said it works immediately so I seeded an area to test it the day after the area was treated. I should have germination by thursday this week. I am not scheduled to drop seed until 10/23/13.

    Thanks again,
