Aerway tines. Cancel The title field is required!

   I currently have an Ag version of the Aerway with Ag shatter tines on it, and it tears up everything I use it on. I want to switch tines to either the turf shatter tines or the sports tines. I have done some research and the sports tines look to me like venting tines they will open up for a few weeks then I will have to get back and open them up again. The turf shatter tines look like what I want for an aerification, but I do not know what surface disruption I will have. Is it something that will heal in a few days or does it take weeks.

   We use the pull behind version and use the fine tine (I think) I'll post the P/N on Monday. It's a thin knife type tine. I use it on fairways but the course up the road actually drags theirs across their greens with the same tines.

   There are 3 different tines offered, the shatter tine, sports tine and the fine tine (large, medium and small if you will). We use the fine tine on greens, switch between the sports tine and fine tine on tees and switch between the sports tine and shatter tine on the fairways/rough.
   
   The shatter tine hole is visible for probably up to 2 weeks or so. Sports tine maybe a week to 10 days. I feel all the tines loosen the soil below the turf so although the scar from the tine may be healed, the effects of aerating the soil last longer than that. The aerating effect is more than what you would get from traditional slicing blades, no matter which size tines you use.
   
   The Aerway is the only aerifier we use on our fairways, and it works pretty well for us. We alternate between the Aerway and a GA 24 on greens and tees.
   
   If you have the budget for it, I would get both the shatter tine and the sports tine for your fairways. It would also depend on the condition of your fairways and what you're trying to achieve with this. I use the shatter tine once / year. The sports tine is great for going over dry spots in the fairway and rough. Very fast and effective and not at all disruptive to play.

   We use the sports tines on fairways, greens and tees thin tines. A competitor(Bannerman) of Aerway actually makes a thinner tine for greens that fits the Aerway and does less disruption, not sure if they still produce but they did.

   Shatter tines in the late fall, mowed opposite direction and the scar is visible for 2 weeks...fairways/roughs only. The speed dictates the amount of disruption, if you go very slow it will not pull up as much and simply mowing will take care of the issue and your fairways will be fine for playability.
   
   sport tines regularly ever few weeks again, speed is a factor for the level of surface disruption. Again, mowing will clean it up. Fairways/tees/rough is fine. Greens it is still a little bit rough, but i have run it across compacted areas with little trouble.
   
   They do make a roller for the aerway that would be ideal to use with the sport/fine tines on greens.
   
   The key is speed, you can go very fast at a shallow depth and the disruption isn't as great, if you go deep and fast it gets messy. So my advice is as depth gets deeper speed must get slower.
   
   I had the 60" tow behind and used it exclusively for fairway aeration.
