    Jeremy,

Are you overwhelmed by the GIS forms listed on the GCSAA website? They can be bit hard to follow and decipher. If that is what you are referring then contact HQ. They can email you a PDF copy of the GIS programs that appears to be condensed and more user friendly. Pick your classes, book a flight, reserve a hotel room and you're done.

When you're walking down the aisles of the trade show, don't make eye contact with any exhibitor you don't want to spend time with.

And flip your name tag around....unless you want some random vendor yelling your name out across the aisle....

    Jeremy,
Just be careful you don't run into Peter. Heard he likes to sell good products. Peter is a good guy. I think.

Good luck with that, Jeremy. Probably difficult to do given the fact that first timers' "name tags" are 24" x 36" fluorescent yellow sandwich boards with "Hello. My Name is...." on both sides.

    Jeremy,
    Network, Network, Network.....
Prioritize what you are looking for on the show floor. Make a hard copy of the list and check it off.

Talk to your distributors before you leave (sooner the better) let them know your going to be there and you would like them to show you any products your looking for. Try to meet them at the booth, set a appointment.

When you run into fellow Superintendents ask them if they have seen anything of interest. This is often a great source of information.

Go to the Opening Session and General session on Wednesday morning both look like a great program and are great places to [u">network.[/u">

Think about stopping in for the annual meeting Thursday afternoon. Introduce your self to the delegate from your chapter. Every member should attend at least one.

    Have Fun.

I've been to the show about 8 or maybe 9 times now in my 20 something years, and I think I'm getting a little better at managing my time on the show floor, but how do some of you decide on your stops after you have hit your must see booths?

I have been thinking about checking out some company websites to see what they have to offer to make some decisions.

How do all of you use your smart phones in that process? (just picked up my first smart phone last night, an iPhone5, I know the dang thing is smarter then me).

    See you all next week!

Keep your cell phone readily accessible to bring up to your ear. It works for taxi drivers in foreign airports....no reason it shouldn't work at the GIS. " There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you. Give me your aisle number and don't move!"

Trust me. Half your stress will come from someone yelling to get your attention. You're busy. On the phone.

    Enjoy,

    Jeff

    Jeremy,

This was the wrong place to post as well! Check out all the free education you can. The Agronomic Solution presentations are usually pretty good both Monday/Tuesday. Innovative superintendent session is usually good hearing from our peers. Take a 1/2 day educational program if you have the cash. Condensed and to the point. Allows you see other presentations during the day. As someone mentioned, if you have specific things you want to look at, document those by booth number with your program. I usually start at one end and make my way through to the other just to check things out, and run into old friends. It is a bit overwhelming but the reduction in size of the event over the years has brought it down to a more manageable day. Swag is ok but usually way too much to carry around unless you want to take a few things home to the kids. Have the vendors send you a packet of information unless you want to look at something specific why you are there. Good luck. Its a great time and should inspire you for the upcoming year.

Didn't read the whole thread, so I don't know if it was mentioned, but all GCSAA members get a free, one time complimentary full conference and show package......If your club is paying, save it for one day when they may not be. I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think it has to be your first time attending to use this benefit.

Thanks for all your help. This is not my first time, just me first time having to enroll myself. I will take all this into consideration. Pat, if you read this, thanks for your call. I plan on calling you back as soon as my voice comes back, sorry!
