I'd like to hear at what heights people are setting groomer attachments.

For example, I'm mowing Penncross/Poa greens at 0.156" and have groomers set to 0.063".

After some trial and error we ended up setting ours flush with the front and rear rollers on cutting unit, we walk mow our greens using toro flex 18's, our greens are mostly poa, it does a nice job, our greens are also very firm as they are also rolled 6 days a week, we do have undulations but groomers are not digging into them, our greens are set at .125

If we are running at .120, groomers will be set @ 100 If cut is @.100, groomers @.080 With jac's I could go into the canopy but with Deere and the counter rotation we cannot because it can kick up shallow rooted, or sodded areas, then the knife grabs it and nothing but trouble from there. That's kind of our rule for greens groomers. If we need something more aggressive to stand the turf up when mowing to help reduce turf density we use the Lingle brushes and they work great!!

Other areas of the course we set differently depending on what we're looking for.

We did set up a set of verti-cut heads on 1/4'' spacings that we can lightly groom into the canopy or a more aggressive verti-cut when needed, using the spring steel blades. We have carbide sets @ 1/2'' spacing also for deep verti-cutting and we use them on tees and fairways when needed as well.

    Regards,

Do you have the groomers going on a daily basis?

We mow at .145 during the summer, with groomers set at .110. I am going to move the groomers down to .100 this year. I try to groom the greens 3 times each week. During the spring I might go 4 times per week until I get the greens where I want them.

Not everyday, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. Mostly use the lingle brushes and we will do the same course two days in a row and move to the next, or alternate between the two brushing or grooming like 3 times a week. During the summer we verticut and topdress weekly and will run groomers two days in a row right after verticutting and topdressing then up and off.

With fairways when they are on and down, we'll go for 2 maybe 3 weeks then off for a week or so then back on. It really helps with the Paspalum, makes it look close to L93 bent.

    Regards,

In the past with Jac eclipses we were around .135" HOC and groomers ~ 10%-12% lower (call it .120") used them all the time except after aerification, topdress, or occasionally during extreme heat and humidity. Now with JD 220 around .140" HOC and groomers closer to .125" same frequency of use. Going to brushes starting at + 10%-12% so around .155" for now.

In Dr. Engleke's Bentgrass Greens Management seminar a few years ago he recommended setting groomers 25% to 50% lower than the bedknife height and grooming every day.

On Pennlinks, USGA mix, Central Indiana, we set the groomers about 30% lower and run the groomers every day, all season, unless after topdressing or fertilizing for a few days. No issues.

.063 groomer with bedknife at .150 sounds too aggressive for what groomers are supposed to be for.

Never was a fan of the groomer.Too much wear and tear. Prefer verticut bi-weekly. Was told by a mentor to set with a penny. Never had a problem. Also never had Bermuda greens.

Corey...I'm sure we can't be the only ones??
Bent/poa and bermuda, I have followed the same program you stated and seems to work for me too.
Clean up can be a pain since you can sometimes bring up a lot of material. But hey, that's what green-side bunkers are for. We blow all that stuff in there.
