We are looking at putting yardage tags on our heads. Doing fairway heads only 200-75 yards out middle of the green. Can you give me some companies to call for these tags? Also, I have a mix of heads from Toro 670, 650,690 and RB 700,900 will this be a problem to do ?

With the assortment of heads your best bet is a white paint pen and a golf pro with a steady hand. Touch up as needed. Worked for me for years.

    J. Davis Marking is the company that I use for distance markers. They will provide you with a wide range in sprinkler cap selection. Check them out at http://www.jdavismarking.com

    Justin,

There are a few companies that have yardage tags, also lids already marked, sometimes they are cheaper then new OME lids.

One suggestion is to take the par 5's out further. One course I was at when we installed on our new irrigation system was on our par 5's we would go out to 280 or so range, this would give us yardage to help selecting lay-up club.

I bought a set of steel hand stamps at Grainger (Part no. 2CDY2, for $118) and a pack of 100 Blank Brass Tags (Part no. 1F039, for $59). It has letters and number in the kit so I can put "220 TO CREEK" or something like that on them. Practice spacing and how hard you hit the stamp and you will be a professional after about two of them. Then I by some small pop rivets and pop rivet them to the heads. The members like them and now they like them even more after they tarnished and got the aged "patina" look. The stamps will last forever and the tags can be used for all kinds of other things also.

I know you can buy yellow number tags that fit Toro 830 and 860 heads. Don't know if they have those for your type. Check with your dealer.

You just pop off the small black plate on the lid and there's room for 3 small number plates. Worked well for us, very visable and no need to buy new tops. We have also used white permenant pen but these need to be redone every year or two.

I ordered through them this year. They have a wide variety of choices and they are quite affordable.

Thanks Mel, I thought about the Par 5's also. We have a 250 marker on these holes so I plan on marking them out further.

Mike, How big are these tags and the letters? I like that idea being the mix of heads that we have. Can you send me a picture of to give me an idea of what they look like installed? Thanks

Justin we started a year changing our sprinkler yardage markers out. The originals were 11 yrs old and showing their age. We tried J Davis Marketing and have enjoyed their product. We changed out 2 or 3 fairways at a time so the task was not ovewhelming to accomphlish. We use a yellow marker with black numbers and they can fit any sprinkler you may have. We have some newer Rainbirds so mixing and matching is no problem. They will send you a good template to use.......we fax it to them and have the markers in week or so at most. Very reasonably priced.

I will send or post some pictures first of next week. The tags are 1" tall by 2" wide. The hand stamps I use imprint a 1/4" tall letter/number.

If you search around I found the same tags for $37.00/per 100 and the stamps (letters & numbers) for $80 or just the number set for $22.
