Going through and rebuilding my irrigation database to fix some issues we are having here, and I have a question for all you out there in irrigation land:
When you name your satellite boxes, what format do you use? For example, if you have two satellites on hole #1, do you name them "011" and "012", or do you just call them "001" and "002"? Just curious how everyone else is doing it.

Ours are named after the holes they are on. 001, 002, 003, 005, 008, 009, 011....
If you have two on the same hole, I would think 011, 012, etc...would be better. With the middle number the hole, third number the satellite.

Having previously been with a Toro distributor for several years and programmed many a Sitepro database, I would concur that the most prevalent method is what Andy said. My first system was my own system many years ago and we had 56 satellites! (lots of low station counts) So we had a two digit number for the hole, then started at the green with 1 and went backward to the tee. If you have some holes with two, just use the one that does the green as the "1".

We have ours set up as hole #1 101 the controller at the tees and 201 the controller at the green #12 is 112 and 212 etc. It seems to work very well. Another good idea is to write the address on the inside of the lid. That way its easy to remember.

We have ours set up just like you suggested.
Holes that only have one box, for instance our 9th hole only has one, and it's 091.
Our 11th hole has 2, they are 111 and 112, with the 111 being the green, and 112 starting at the tees.
All the XX1 boxes start at the greens and the XX2 boxes start at the tees.
It makes it very simple for new employees that use irrigation to understand.
