What's your desired roller for a 5410 and why?

Just trying to see what works best for different guys out there. looks like I'm going to have to make some changes soon.

I have experience with the 114-5406 (08 up) and the 110-4066 (06-07). They are both the "short" roller with tubes that measure 20 1/2 inches. The 114-5406 is a superior design in that it has larger bearings. The 110-4066 has the snap ring design which failure rate for me has been greater. I have replaced more bearings and shafts on the older design. This year I experimented with sealed bearings on the 110-4066 design ( along with 3500D and 4500D rear rollers) and time will tell if they hold up. For the 110-4066 design I substituted a 6203RS sealed bearing.

I do not recommend the plastic rollers for this application. In my experience the plastic wears on the inside. Then the shaft starts wearing where the plastic rides, then height of cut is all over the place.. I do however like the plastic rollers for Toro greens master basket rollers.

Why do you need to change rollers?

sorry we have been pretty busy. My mower is around 14 years old. we replaced the steel rollers because the ends kept coming loose and screwing things up. we had went with some plastic ones but over time they have come apart where the yellow plastic separated from the metal tube inside. I do not want to go that route again.

The rollers you had originally must have been the 1st Gen one with the snap rings on each end as Sean mentioned. Toro phased those out years ago in favor of the 3rd Gen design (identifiable by a 1" stainless nut on each end) which are very long lasting. You can order a front and rear roller for a later model 5410 and see if those 3rd Gen rollers float your boat as far as performance goes. Again, they will last a very long time.
