I have 6 Toro Flex 21 mowers. Here's my dilemma. 5 of the 6 cut greens with about the same amount of clippings, but one mower cuts with 3x the clippings. We have checked everything, including the prism gauge, and can find absolutely no difference. Anyone have a clue why this is?
Same reel size (all replaced same time), same roller size, angle of bedknife same, relief on reel the same. I'm at a complete loss what is going on.

Check that all Bedbars are the same. You may not be able to measure it in BN angle, but the aggressive bar sets the knife quite a bit back, changing the gather point significantly.

I'm with Greg on this. Most likely the issue and is difficult to see without knowing exactly what to look for. This attachment should help.

If its not the bedknife shoe, check your shield and make sure it is set the same as the rest. The deflection could be allowing more or less clippings to enter the basket. Also, double check your knives, it is possible that they were cut / ground different from the manufacturer, and its causing a different attitude and angle. Just a thought.

Skip makes a great point about the shield; its amazing how much this affects yield.

Also, the further back the face of the knife is ground, the more aggressive the cutting unit becomes, so be aware of overall length of the knife as well.

Another thing that is easy to overlook is the rear roller. Some of these came with a .190" diameter roller, DPA's from triplexes and later model Flex's came with 2.00" dia rollers, and all replacements now supersede to 2.00" rollers. This will have some effect so make sure nothing got mismatched there by mistake.

Speaking of the shield, what exactly is it for? I know what it does, but what is the purpose of it?

When you say shield are you guys talking about the cut-off bar at the top of the reel? If so according to my toro rep by adjusting that to spec as the reels wear if makes the mower throw the clippings further into the basket so you don't spill any/as much grass from your buckets.

From the operators manual about the cut off bar.
