We have several steep (downhill) cart paths that get very slick with just the slightest amount of rain. One gets moss growing on it due to lack of sun. What are some tricks and tips for improving traction? We have REGEN braking on our ClubCars which helps but we still have some carts that that get away. I was thinking of a angle-broom with stiff bristles mounted on a skid steer. One of the owners suggested spreading sand, but I fear that would make things worse, increasing sliding.

Pressure washing the surface would be the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to go. You'd also be surprised at how much more traction this will give you by blasting away the surface of the path. Keep it on a routine when needed, and it will help.

A long term solution would be ripping it out, then repouring the path and finish with a garden rake so grooves are present. You could also do it now by using a concrete saw and cutting lines into the path every 1" or so across the path. This is actually quicker than you think by simply just laying down a 1 x 4 as a straight edge cutting the grove 1/4" or so deep.

There are also some epoxy coatings that you can get with traction grit to put in them. We applied this product to our cart barn floor this past summer and it has great traction when wet. We got it from Sherwin Williams.
