So the wife of a guy at work stopped by to pick up his phone that he forgot at the shop. She had two black eyes and what looked like a carpet burn mark on her forehead. She just had surgery on her left hand for carpal tunnel as few weeks earlier. She explained that she was waxing the kitchen floor and while on her hands and knees, slipped, and hit her face.

Any sleuths out there believe it?

Does any part of you feel like you should do something?

Yeah absolutely. That's why I posted it.

An intervention was suggested but an intervention for what? Spousal abuse? Drug abuse? Alcohol abuse? Or stupidity? Maybe all of the above?

Any suggestions? Should I question Hubby? What I know of her, if she was punched out, she would never roll over on her husband. I also suspect she struggles with intoxicants so she may have just passed out standing up and ate it but who knows?

    That's the quandary.

I just found the story to be a stretch so before I moved to the next step I thought I'd bounce it off the group.

I would call law enforcement and let them check it out.

If it is abuse as you suspect, speaking to the hubby may only exacerbate the situation and perhaps put you "sideways" in a very personal matter. I would alert law enforcement, if she was as banged up as you said, it probably isn't her first beating and maybe a neighbor filed a complaint too. If not, its good to start the ball rolling and have the professionals handle this. lets all remember JoPa....

Call law enforcement like Scott said. Tell them what you suspect and let them take it from there. To me that's the only thing you can do. Once you do that I don't think there is really much else you can do.

Thanks guys. I just called the authorities. Hopefully, it was nothing and if it was, hopefully this is a step towards stopping it in the future/

So does anybody know what the authorities do once they have been contacted with this type of information?

    Tim,

I believe they do what is called a "well being" check. They go by the house and speak with both parties. What happens after this I do not know. But at least it gets a record down of the suspicion for future reference.

Here I go with my armchair law interpretation. My brother-in-law is a retired cop and from our conversations over the years it seems the law errors on the side of caution for the woman. A lot of times the courts, based on little to no evidence against the man, will place a mandatory 30 to 90 day restraining order. Some defendants are required to wear ankle monitoring devices. The restraining order is then revisited by the court at the end of the 30-90 day period to determine the legitimacy of the claim.

I do, first hand, and that is the exact reason I said to call... It will be 8 years this March since we burried her...
