I was wondering what everyone thought about the contacting a GCS in regards to playing their course and the possibility of getting setup with a tee time? Do you think that it is overstepping by contacting the GCS, or begging, or is it a reasonable request? I know that I would do what ever I could to facilitate a request. I just want to be respectful, so this is why I am asking the opinion of others. Thanks for any input or taking the time to respond.

We allow tee times for GCSAA Members. The out of town guys ask for them. Local guys pay the greens fee without asking for a gratis time. We are a municipal course and have a number of local supts play here with their kids or alone, incognito.

Usually if I know I am going somewhere else to play I try and call the superintendent as far in advance as possible to set up a time. I simply ask if they want me to set it up through them or go through the normal reservation process. If they decide to "comp" me that's great but I don't expect it when I am playing at courses out of my area where I don't already have a personal relationship with a superintendent. Most of the guys close by are pretty good about helping out when I give them a call. I don't play a lot anymore so it's not a big deal. In the current business climate I don't really have a problem with paying the green fee if I want to go play somewhere else.

    Gary,
There is nothing wrong with calling the Super and asking him about a tee time. If he is cool with it then, like you said ask him if he wants you to contact the proshop. When guys call me, I will call the Proshop my self and set up the time. I comp local and out of town guys, but not their non-gcsaa guests.
Again, like you said, I would never ask to be comped, and would plan on paying, if he wants to comp you great, if not still great, thanks for getting me on. This usually applies to private courses I would think.
