I live in the north with little other than crabgrass to deal with and little of that. I read everything you transition and southerners talk about and am absolutely stunned by your problems, and knowledge of how to deal with those issues. You guys have special talents that I can't even fathom as far as chemicals go.
A southern man could easily adapt to cool season turf but the inverse would be a disaster.

    Hey Larry,

I have grown both cool and warm season grasses in extremes. Both present their own unique challenges at different times. I think a solid turf manager can adapt and conquer either or, just my $.02................

I have years of experience in warm and cool season and overall I find the warm season easier, if we're talking about bermudagrass. The stuff is far more resilient that any cool season grass, by comparison it is both disease resistant and drought tolerant. It's also less sensitive to herbicides and can recover a lot more quickly from insect damage.

But that's way south. Now if you're in the transition zone you have problems no matter which way you go - either cool season grasses dying in the heat of summer or warm season grasses freezing to death in the winter.
