I know we are seeing more of this these days but shame on USGA. At the beginning of today's broadcast of the United States Open the young children were reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. At the point we have all learned to recite UNDER GOD, either one or both of these groups of Americans did not allow it, they broke off to something else and then came back to the children finishing the pledge. I can see NBC on its own doing something like this, but the USGA should have either not allowed it or do something entirely different. Right now I do not feel the same respect for the USGA as I did prior to the telecast.

The USGA appears to be stepping knee deep in it. First the malarky about grooved wedges, inertia of the clubface, and rpm of the ball. I'll never understand why the USGA doesn't allow equipment specifically for the pros and a second set of steroid-like equipment for the rest of us hacks. Then there's the USGA and it's alter-ego. Nice USGA says to reduce maintenance practices for the good of the game. Green committees must back off the superintendent and forgive a brownish spot and there. The USGA spouts environment and sustainability then completely destroys courses (that had been sustained for decades) to rebuild in the name of firmer/faster greens, length of the course, and to protect MOTHER PAR! Now the USGA is jumping into the political pool with the Pledge of Allegiance. Not to mention how the USGA raises it's collective noses to any golf course that dare play red lateral marking stakes along a woodline or tallgrass/native line.

How much does this really affect our lives?? Its golf on tv take it for what it is. Religion does not belong on the golf course. A great performance by an exciting young golfer on a golf course that persevered. End of story.

It did not happen on the golf course, it happened on national TV and is a sign of how we are letting values and morals slip. Food for thought, did the children recite it correctly and then just omitted or were they instructed not to say UNDER GOD?

The "under god" line wasn't added until the 50's. I don't think it is a big deal myself. But in my opinion the only ones "under god" might offend is the atheist.

As I recall the commentators apologized for it stating that it had been an editing problem. I doubt there was any intent to offend anyone. God might be Jesus to some, Mohamed to others, Beer to me.
As an atheist, I am not offended in the least by references to a generalized higher being or beering. I do think it is a problem when that being is a specific being. I don't think that is what the "old boys" who started your country intended.

Red, that is what I was thinking yesterday when I posted and didn't know how to say it.

I wish I had a link to the Prime Minister of Australia because he stated "This is our country". We allow you to come here, to live here, to work here, and to prosper here. It is still our country founded on our principals and beliefs and if you disagree with them, I suggest you move elsewhere. That's more of the attitude we should have here in America, instead of worrying about offending everyone with words.

Can you define "we", "our", "you"?? Especially in the melting pot that is the USA.
