My wife and I are spending Christmas/New Years in the Phoenix area. What to do, What to do?
I realize that you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a golf course and probably can't go wrong with almost every choice, but I would appreciate some recommendations.

Also what else to do while there and restaurants to eat at. My wife put me in charge of sporting events and food. :D
    Cardinals vs. 49's Check
    Coyotes vs. Oilers Check

    Golf??
    Food??
    Other activities??

Was out there at the in-laws for Thanksgiving. Did an easy hike north of Scottsdale at someplace called Pinnacle Peak that was fun. After the hike we drove up to nearby Cave Creek which was a fun touristy day. Phoenix Botanic Garden is also really interesting and beautiful place.

This would have been back in the late 80's so I don't know how revelent it is now, but we took a day trip down to Nogales. The ex drove some hard bargins on some blankets and a nice chess set that I still have. My dad was entertained by the other tourist with the "bargins" they had bought. (which were double to triple what we were buying stuff for). Had a nice lunch/dinner. Don't know how safe all that is down there now at the border. Some great memories, still get a kick out of the ex telling the guy selling the chess set that we could get it for cheaper and he called her a liar, eventually sold it to us and even threw in a shopping bag for free.

Los Dos Molinos downtown by the ballpark; best food anywhere. Any of the Filibertos Aribertos etc chain fast Mexican food are great. Hiking at South Mountain, Camelback, Squaw Peak. Cave Creek is cool. Fireworks over Tempe town lake for New Years. Day trip to Sedona/Jerome, 1.5 hrs drive max. Lots of golf everywhere.

    Bradley,

The guys have covered the bulk of it...

Where are you staying? Golf thoughts for you based on side of town... We-Ko-Pa on the east side is a favorite... Grayhawk in north Scottsdale...

Food... Mexican all the way... Los Dos is excellent... couple of small family ones around town are Nando's and Valle Luna; can't go wrong with either (try the margarita with Grand Marniet added... trust me on this one!)

Nogales is fine... inlaws go all the time for their meds!

Anything else... give me a shout!

Good to know Nogales is still safe.....do they still prefer American dollars over peso's? It seemed to help with the bargaining.

I rode and old antique train around a mountain somewhere near Phoenix and also rode a horse named Bullet. Can't remember much else about the place other than it was warmer than here and they had these large prickly trees that looked like Nelson Mandela with his arms spread out

Years ago my wife, a couple friends, and I found a place outside Phoenix that we knew as Cowtown. I have no idea if this is the real name of the place. It was a flea market kinda place. All kinds of cool stuff, if you're in to that sort of thing. The best part is we found a Steeler bar while walking around the flea market roads.

On the way to Cowtown we stumbled across a small non-descript airport. The sign read "Glider Rides". So we stopped. The "airport terminal" was a wooden shack that had a front porch. The glider pilot was sitting in a rocking chair on the porch with a Cockatiel sitting on his shoulder. We happened to have beers with us and in hand when we approached the pilot. The bird flew over to my shoulder, walked down my arm, stuck its beak into my bottle of beer and would not let go. The pilot told me the feathered rat would not let go until I gave it drink. I tipped the bottle, Polly took a sip, and went on his way. Long story short, I bought a ride on the glider. Turns out it was a glider ride with ariel acrobatics included. Some of the scariest and best fun I have ever experienced.

    LOS DOS MOLINOS!!!!!

What a blast from the past! In 1995 I worked for the Forest Service in tiny village called Alpine Arizona. Springerville was the closest town. My favorite place to eat and drink Tequilia was Los Dos Molinos in Springerville!
This was the original location and the couple who owned, cooked, ran the place were super nice! Vickey and Eddie I think. They had a sign on the door that said Something like.....All of our food is hot. Even our mild is Hot. If you do not like spicy food please go somewhere else. !
Food was AWESOME and HOT! I am so happy to hear those great people were able to continue with their dream for so long, and to spread to Pheonix!
