Has anyone taken up part time employment due to personal issues/ reasons/ needs?

Did your board or superiors approve it? If not, what was the reasoning for their no answer? Conflict of interest? Lack of perceived availability?

What kind of work was it?

Looking for some help here. Thanks in advance.

    Doug,

I have moonlighted before, working at a bowling alley at night. First place I worked, it was for winter leagues just on Tuesday and Thursday nights, dead of winter wasn't to bad, the spring and fall was a little rough, more so the spring. I also worked another bowling alley on Saturday nights a couple years after that, since I was off on Sundays I even kept that job all summer. Never was an issue.

I know if we were do work here at the city, we have to let them know, make sure it's not a conflict of interest, such as me working another golf course, but I think they worry more about us getting hurt on the other job and then claiming it was at our city job. I'm just guessing that is what they worry about. I know in the past, guys would have 6 weeks of comp time built up, so they would take those 6 weeks off and work another job.

I coached swimming for years as a paid part time position in the off season. I also did individual strength and fitness training for college athletes. I wish I could have been paid for all the hours I have coached softball over the last 10 years. I am going to start giving hitting lessons to generate some income. I've been doing it for free for years. There about 16 girls that I coached that are now playing in college and each time I visited my daughter at Rollins College in Florida, I spent a couple hours working with a few of their players in the batting cages.

I think it would be difficult to have a structured second job. You can't predict your day as a Superintendent and that has to be your primary responsibility if you want to keep your job.
