Not an earth shattering story but one that makes you kinda proud to be a dad.
A while ago my dogs went out one Saturday morning when I went to work. My 15 year old son was at home. He hears some gun shots and yelling. Shortly after there was a strange man at the door asking my son if the dog he had in custody was ours. Jake said Ya and the guy was freaking. You dog killed my pet ducks. Jake heads over to his place and helps round up the surviving ducks. Gives the guys wife a hug and says how sorry he is. Helps clean up the ducks that had to be put down.
Latter that day when I got home I was confronted by duck man demanding retribution for said ducks in the form of 1000.00 dollars. I said that seemed a little steep for a couple of ducks and he went on to tell me they were pet ducks that came when called and lived in the house with his family. I decided to pay him his duck ransom to avoid the neighbour conflict. He finishes by telling me what a helpful wonderful well mannered son I have and that he would like to hire him.
He was kind of a rough looking character with broken teeth and the only business I could picture him in was one with questionable legality. Last week my boy comes home and says he got his first summer job...turns out this guy is the manager of a major antique car restoration business in town and the boy will be working in his shop this summer. They also have a reality TV show filmed there
Just goes to show that good can come out of bad...
    A proud father

    Nice story Red,

Also shows you can't judge a book by their cover?

Make the kid pay for the duck ransom, that'll teach him to hug strangers.
I had to buy a bunch of laying hens one time when my Lab got into them. She was killing them in his yard and then fetching them home. We tried to eat them, but......have you ever tried to eat a laying hen? Soup is about all they're good for. Now duck? I love duck. That's a good dog.

And a very generous man to pay the grand ransome.........it would have been on like the Hatfields and the McCoys before I would have paid it......but again you're a nice guy.

    Red,

My wife died from laughter when she heard you paid the ransom. She's worth as much as the ducks, at least. Send me my grand. She didn't come when I called her but she did live in the house.

I'm sorry about your loss, Clay.

For you Red, it's your darn fault the dog got out in the first place. You should also have paid your son for putting up with the problem while you sat at a bar and drank all day. At least, that's what Wallace said you were doing.

Red's dog is named Wallace? That's just weird.

    Geez Andy,

That was kinda rude. What if I posted that "you were busted for selling crack. At least, that's what your neighbor told me."

Does the "at least" make it a harmless joke? Sure hope so........

It wasn't selling crack. It was showing crack. My neighbor hates me anyways, especially when I show crack while cleaning the boat.
