Does anyone remember if this is the course that Jeffie built? It's in the right town but I can't think what the course name was.
Planning a trip with my son for November and would like to marvel at the Late Greats' handiwork.
Short Story: When Jeff was actively involved building the course we used to email back and forth. He mentioned how much he missed good scotch...sooo I decided to buy him a bottle of Dalwinnie and ship it to him UPS. Then I read the fine print and found that shipping liquor to Egypt was frowned upon so being the inventive person that a Super has to be, I formulated a not well thought through plan.
I packed a medium sized box and surrounded the Dalwinnie with a couple of yards of bubble wrap. I then filled the remainder of the box with golf tees, ball markers, divot repair tools and some hats etc. There was still a bit of room left so I went into a Business Depot and bought one of those EASY BUTTON thingy's they used to sell. Jeffy had mentioned that he wanted one for his desk at some point Went to the UPS store and shipped it to him. The packaging forms stated it was golf course samples. I figured being a new course, the customs people wouldn't think anything of it, and Jeff would have a nice bottle of Scotch. It wasn't a cheap endevour with the cost of Scotch added to the cost of overseas shipping, but I figured it worth the entertainment value.
About three weeks later Jeff called to ask if I had sent him something by UPS. Customs had called and wanted 200 US to release it. Either Jeff was cheap or smart, maybe both, but he refused to pick it up when I told him what was in it, fearing it might be some sort of setup if they had inspected the package
This was before terrorism was the issue it is today but in hindsight I now realize the error of my ways. I can just imagine customs x raying the box, seeing a bottle of liquid, surrounded by metal and plastic projectiles and a giant red button box with wires.
I go to great lengths to try to make people laugh but I may have carried that one a bit too far.
I do hope the customs guy or UPS guy didn't let the scotch go to waste.
