I made a home made version of Summit's "dead metal". I have a Summit Open Shot climbing tree stand that is about five years old. Summit's stands have remained very much the same for a while but, have recently released a "dead metal" technology. This is designed to reduce noise from things hitting the stand when you walk in or if you drop something onto it while on stand. My cousin just bought a new stand with the "dead metal" and he told me that the cavities were filled with a foam similar to spray foam insulation. So with a can of foam insulation and about two feet of leftover plastic tube originally intended to provide water to my fridge's water and ice maker, I was able to squirt the foam into the frame of the stand. The end result was awesome. A few bucks and some time may help get a buck later. I encourage any sportsman to post tips, stories, food plot info, recipes for bait, lures or anything about hunting. We all know some folks do not agree with our favorite pastime and that's okay so, please do not high jack with anti rants. Much respect and thanx.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try on some of my stands that aren't already in place. Did you use the material inside the ladder portion of your stands? This seems like a good place for it because when I get in a hurry to climb I always seem to hit the ladder with something on the way up.

I usually don't have a problem because I can hunt my own ground but last season I hunted on some public ground and had a infrared trail camera stolen. Needless to say I was very upset about the $200.00 hit and wanted to find out who did it. So I took another camera out and put it in the same place as bait, this one was an old one that used an incandescent flash for night pics. Then I put another infrared camera in a very discrete place pointed at the old camera and you guessed it, got a picture of the thief stealing my old camera. Took the pic to the local Sheriff and it didn't take him long to track down the guys identity and to recover mine and a few other cameras stolen in the area.

Awesome to get the scum bag that was thieving cams. I have not put in the ladder portions because they are out on location but if I set out a new one I will dead metal them as well. Here in Ohio starting to see some rub activity and some good bucks on trail cams. So needless to say I have been pretty jazzed up for the start of our archery on 9/29.
