Kudos to GCSAA and all of those involved for listening to the membership and adjusting the time and location of the GCSAA National Championship and Golf Classic. Also, great idea for adding a "scramble" event on Monday for those of us that want to play more for a good time and networking experience than to win a championship. Moving the event to the same city as the Conference and Show was a no-brainer in my opinion, and I'm glad to see the change. This is proof that this is OUR association.

Andy, I can tell you that I loudly insisted that we have the tournament in San Diego next year rather than an extra travel point. Like many, I have had to pay for the tournament and all of my expenses at the GIS for the past four or five years. Reducing travel will at least help reduce a couple of the add on costs. I enjoyed playing in the desert this year but hotels in Las Vegas would have been at least $70 per night less and I know golf courses in the area wanted to step up and participate. Many of us no longer have the luxury of having the company pay for anything beyond education and registration. For those that are still lucky enough to have the benefit, they will be able to make their resources go further. Hopefully this happens in Orlando and San Antonio over the next couple of years. It is important that we keep GCSAA aware of how important this issue is.

I'm sure glad the few that play in the tournament had fun since GCSAA spends more money on that than on research that would benenfit ALL of us.

    Scott,

In the case of the tournament it is more about where the sponsor wants to put their dollars. Toro has been a very generous sponsor of the GCSAA Championship for many years. I have been attending since 2000. It is a great event that I often feel I learn more from than the conference itself. Its not for everyone but i think the value is what you make it. I agree that the changes they are making are for the better. I like having a scramble event and being in the same town.

Regarding research I think the economy has had the biggest impact. The changes to the EIFG will help get things rolling again.
