For those of you outside of 100 miles of the Canadian border, this post will mean nothing. Gord Downey is the lead singer of a Canadian band that has been around for the last 30 years. It was announced yesterday that Gord has terminal brain cancer with may be a year or two before it takes him out. They also announced their final tour for this summer. Unlike The Who and numerous others, this will be their last tour.
Certain Canadian bands, like the Hip can fill stadiums in Canada but would not likely fill a bar outside of the northern states within listening distance of a Canadian radio station.
They met at Queens University in Kinston Ontario, formed a band, 19 Albums later they are still as popular as when their first album came out. They maintained the same lineup the entire time.
Apparently the cancer affects the short term memory, but his doctor said yesterday that music and vocals are stored in a different area of the brain and so he is good to go for the tour.
It's a sad day for us up here.

Your right Larry, that takes courage just like the gal who was fighting it and was able to play a college BB game. These people and others fighting that horrible disease are showing courage. Not Bruce Jenner or whatever the hell his or her name is. Thumbs down to ESPN. God be with him on his final tour.
