I'm a native of Colorado and I've never seen anything remotely like this. The Big Thompson flood of 1976 caused more human casualties and hopefully this time the level of human life lost is far less but this is a huge natural disaster by any definition. I read today were some 1200 people are still missing. Most are assumed to be safe and sound.

    Ron,

I was up in Lyons and Estes Park last month and actually returning to Boulder, Lyons, Loveland, Estes Park and Ft. Collins starting Saturday. I am shocked at the devastation. Truly concerned for that area. Estes Park has not seen a flood like this since the Lawn Lake disaster in 1982, and the 1976 flood before that. The community is very resilient and will rebuild bigger and better. Only positive is that it is out of major tourist season right now, but now winter is knocking on there door. I think we have yet to hear the stories of desperation. We will see how those that chose not to evacuate handle the coming months once winter sets in.

Andy are you going to be able to even get to Estes Park or Lyons?

Doubt it. They have everything blocked off for at least the week. 34 and 36 are done, no idea when they will re-open. Months. Only way in to Estes Park right now is Highway 7 - which is about 1.5 hours out of the way. Might have to reschedule that part of the trip. Just can't imagine the impact that has occurred. None of those businesses are big corporations that can just rebuild. They are life dreams with every penny sunk into them. That's who I really feel for. Lots of lost dreams....
