    GREETINGS;

    Don't know if your state requires an inspection sticker. But if it does, read on.

    Massachusetts -

    My car needs an inspection sticker in May. Monday, I was going to go get a sticker and before I left I checked the glove department for my registration. I checked our other car and also car files in my house. No luck. However, in the glove compartment I had a registration from 2014 to 2016. I realized I kept that one and thru the 2016 to 2018 away. When you get older some of us do stupid things as that.

    Fortunately, there is an AAA within a few miles of my home. I filled out a short form - year, make, model, color, license and plate number, type -( passenger), body style - (sedan). Took about 5 minutes. Gave it to the attendant and she put it in a machine and my new registration came out even with the vehicle identification number, transaction number, title number and name of insurance company which I did not put down. I paid her a check for $25.00 ( you can also use a credit card) but no cash. Original registration costs $60.00.

    As I was leaving, she said sir, I tell all the people who lose their registration to make a copy of the new one and leave one in the car and the other in your home. I went and got my sticker.

    That is the tip of the day. "MAKE A COPY OF YOUR REGISTRATION"

    We are fortunate in Mass. to have many AAA that help out the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

    That's a good story, Ron. I just wish everybody who lives in Massachusetts would stay there.

    Jr.

    Blame the AAA, they are so good at handing out maps to Florida.

    Hi Steve;

    According to your Governor of FL you are the second lowest state for all types of taxes. I don't know who is the lowest. You have one million more people living in FL than New York has.

    So, don't only worry about MA people moving to FL but watch out for those New Yorker's. The lower taxes you have the more people you are going to get in FL and I hope they all join your golf club.

    There's no income tax here, so I'm sure that's a draw. Sales tax is 6%.

    We have income tax and 7% sales tax. Still no interest in living there...

    You are getting off easy with a $60 registration. My birthday costs me about $600 to renew registration on two vehicles, a boat and a trailer. When I moved down here, I also had to pay over $100/each to "buy" the license plate. I'm sure its higher now...Happy birthday to me....

    Even though we have no state income tax, state sales tax is 6% with a local option sales tax here in Marion County at another 1%. The Gov't makes their money on property taxes, vehicle registrations, and hotel bed taxes. Don't be fooled by the $99/night hotel rates....most tack on another $25-40/night in "Resort Fees", "Bed taxes", etc....the newest thing is charging to park in their lot. One place had a $25/night parking fee you didn't find out about until you went to check in. We also have impact fees for new construction. Here locally the impact fee is close to $10k for a residential house.

    Also, our gas taxes push close to $.60/gallon.

    WTF, over.

    Governments are going to get the funds they need to operate one way or another.

    I remember in Indiana, (not sure if it's changed) our registration fee on new vehicles were over $200, it would decrease as your vehicle got older. I don't remember the sales taxes, I do know fuel tax is higher then what we have in Missouri. I remember paying an income tax to my home county, even though I worked in another county.

    In Jersey, I remember sales tax was 5%, with no tax on clothes, my wife loaded up on baby clothes in bigger sizes before we moved, (Nick wasn't quite 1 yet), gas taxes were cheaper than NY State (and they pump it for you), I seem to remember our main taxes were income tax and property, (we paid $1,600 for a $139.000 house in NW Jersey 25 years ago, there was a mechanic who retired from our course in Teaneck, and his property taxes were like $6,000?)

    Here in Missouri auto registration is fairly cheap, $60 for two years, plus we have to pay for an inspection. Our gas tax is one of the lowest in the country. Our sales taxes with county and cities, run from 7 - 9+%, property taxes on a $140,000 or so house is about $1,300 depending on town. Income tax is about 6.5%. The one everyone complains about around here is the Personal Property taxes on boats, cars, motorcycles, trailers, and like items. We get taxed on those items every year. Of course the older the vehicles the less they cost. So that 99 Civic is still pretty cheap.
