If greens are taking water is it still beneficial to spray wetting agents and why?

It depends on what type of wetting agent that you are spraying and why. Some are trying to hold water while others are trying to flush it. One of the main reasons that we spray is to hold water in these extremely high temperatures to keep from over watering. It really goes back to what you are trying to accomplish, but personally I would rather be safe than sorry and keep spraying. That is not something that I would mess with right now.

With TriCure, it's recommended to spray regularly, regardless of temperature, humidity, rainfall amounts, etc. I think that product is designed to neither flush or hold water, but to maintain consistency over the entire soil profile.

We have been spraying fleet at the 2.5 oz per thousand rate every 2 weeks but it has been 3 weeks since the last time we sprayed and the greens are wilting alot more often. I feel like its because we haven't sprayed the wetting agent but there was some question there and I was told that they were taking water so that shouldn't have anything to do with it. I need help to sell my idea that even though the greens are "taking water" we still need to spray the fleet because it will help keep the entire profile constant, instead of the water staying up around the thatch layer. Thanks for the help guys!

I spray my greens with Pervade to help move water through the profile or at least keep moisture out of the top inch or so. However I spray my collars with Symphony to hold water. I aerate collars with quad tines once a month and spray symphony once they are cleaned up. I spray the pervade every two weeks and the symphony once a month.

1690 at 2oz/m has been working great this season. minimal handwatering in pm and no hydrophobic coil conditions.

@adalton. Do you put the pervade in with your foliar tanks? If so how soon are you watering it in?

I was mixing it just with quicksilver for my moss eradication program, but now that the moss problem is 80% gone it's back in with the foliars. I water it in at night, I have always had great success with pervade that way and found out that it was great to add it to the quicksilver applications as well. At a previous course I used it every two weeks and it worked out well and seems to be doing great at my new job. The two week rate for me 1.5oz per M.

1.5oz every two weeks? How dry does it make the surface? Do you have much of a thatch layer?

Prevade is the way to go. I used this also in combo with Retain, I still like the Prevade app by itself. It does a good job of moving the water through the profile. within a couple hours I am able to move water through LDS. It is simply amazing. I used to be a big fan of pellets alone, but not anymore. I am not big on Floratine products, but this is a good product. FYI, I do not spray every 2 weeks, but rather go out when I feel they need it, LDS, or water movement in general. We are not a high budget course so I have to be careful with what I have. As far as watering it in I give it each green about 5 minutes after the application, then that night will run a 10 min cycle. I never mix anything in, just spray it alone. My app rate is 1.5 oz/1000

It keeps the surface quite dry, the larger areas that had moss, the moss cracked which allowed for a great seeding environment. I think 1.5oz per 1,000 every two weeks works great for me, but everyone's greens are different. The greens are pretty firm, but still hold shots, good luck!
