   The big lawn care suppliers are selling iron for weed control in home lawns. Natria by BAyer, Fiesta, and Scott's has been working on one. What's the scoop here? I have found lots of jabber on the natural lawn sites and EPA has approved it. Canada has been moving in this direction. I have not found much from our turf university sites.
   A 2010 article in Sports Turf has some highlights from the Univ of Quelph.

   That is all the homeowner has up here for weed control and the ones I have spoken to say that it works. It is a different formulation that iron sulphate/chelate and is very expensive at this point.

   I've used FIESTA, but not on the golf course, only on a residential lawn. Works pretty good. Expensive as Larry says, about 3x or more per app. Nice color to the turf after and it hits moss if you have that problem in your area.

   I used it on one of our city ball fields and had pretty good results. It is expensive but fairly effective and fast acting. You may also need to make a repeat application about 4 weeks after your first app. It also requires a LOT of water during the application and you want to make sure your turf is wet when applying the product. Spray it on dry turf and expect to see some turf burn. Right now it is the only herbicide we are legally allowed to use on sports fields in Ontario (unless we are hosting an international event and apply for an exemption from the provincial Ministry of Environment to use the more traditional herbicides)

   Nothing personal, of course, but I just find that somewhat hypocritical. "We want to be all green and environmentally-conscious-like and all.....unless the world is watching. Then we just want it to look good."

   That is why the Pesticide Act in the province of Ontario is so short-sighted. The entire ban was implemented to win an election, no scientific backing whatsoever. Best part is, the people of Ontario just re-elected the same idiot for 4 more years. And I won't even go into the BS of our IPM money grab program.

   Hypocritical isn't the word. It is insanity. The LD50 of the iron product maybe lower than 2,4D but you see, iron is natural and 2,4D is made in a factory so it must be far worse. We don't use science here in Onterrible, we base our decisions on emotional response to words.
   If people saw the chemical resemblance between 2,4D and a commonly used cough drop they would throw up a lung.
   You can spray a Banner derivative on your feet for athletes foot but by god don't put it on your golf green. You can wash your kids hair with a shampoo for lice containing dursban but on grass, its an environmental night mare.
   I understand why the marketing departments are naming their products Rhapsody and the like. In hind site calling a three way herbicide Killex, may have been a mistake

   Fiesta is the one that is available for commercial turf. I did some trials on this a couple of years ago and I just saw trials at the U of I yesterday. Scotts has U.S. distribution rights through Whitney Farms. It's a cheleated iron and the results are acceptable. It does stain turf, black to purple. Remember the old Scotts STEP?    No offense taken, I didn't right the Act I am just supposed to follow it. I would pretty much agree with your take on the hypocrisy of the way the Act is written and would agree with Andrew's and Red's comments on the farce of the new rules and regs. The IPM rules we have to follow can probably be described as our penance for still being allowed to use any pesticides.
