I recently came across a large bag that contains approx. 30 water dispersible bags of a brown powder. No label, no information, not even a darn sticky note! It doesn't look like dithiopyr, or imidacloprid. I have no clue. Anybody have thoughts on where i can send this to get tested? seems like if it is a fungicide, it is way too much to just use up.

Any idea how old it is? Could it be Thiram?

I would mix a little in with my Round-up until it is gone. Even if you are 99% sure it is one product, that 1% of doubt is not worth losing your job over.

No records...purchase or application? When it comes to "chemicals" When in doubt Don't:)

Could be Bayleton. Bayleton has a rather unique smell.
Could be a lot of things, I would probably slowly spray it out in a diluted mix for rough or landscape areas.

I would check with your local sales reps as to where to get it tested. Not sure where you are at but you can't normally apply a product to dispose of it if you don't know what it is. To be safe and responsible, I would err on the side of finding out exactly what it is before you do anything with it. In the end it will be better for you and your employer.

I think the best advice here was when in doubt....DON'T! How can you follow the label when you have no label? Or even know what it is? If you don't know what it is then what is the purpose of the application? What is the target? What is the pest? I would contact your supplier and ask them for help. Having a commitment to environmental stewardship like superintendents should I am amazed that some would even consider applying this without even knowing what it is.

Rick, probably the only reason people contemplate spraying out is we couldn't afford to dispose of it properly? You are right though about if we don't know what it is how do we know rates and such. Maybe the salesperson knows what it is though, if they have done business with the previous superintendent?

Florida has amnesty days where you can dispose of old, unused, unlabeled, etc...pesticides. I would check with your Department of Agriculture if you would like to go that route. Our programs are free.

[u">I do retract my previous post.
This product should be considered hazardous waste.
[/u"> It should not be sprayed out without proper identification. All states have a variety of ways to deal with this circumstance. There are hazardous waste disposal days in many areas. There are hazardous waste disposal companies that help identify and legally dispose of them. The state EPA is an excellent resource to help in this circumstance.
